Hey everyone! Just wanted to start out by saying that searching through and reading about the notoriously difficult CPS recruiting process has put my mind somewhat at rest, and I wish the best of luck to all of you.
My only question (for now) is how long does it take before they finally inform you of what the upcoming testing date schedule is? I couriered my application package to the office approx 2 weeks ago and STILL haven't heard anything back. I know there are absolutely no disqualifiers in my package whatsoever, so I don't know what the hold up is. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I would like to know how long it took for those of you who have been through it. Any info would put my mind at rest.. I'm sooo anxious to start the ball rolling. Thanks everyone!

Just be patient it takes awhile before they review everything in you app and then send you a letter with the next testing dates.

As long as your not from the west coast of BC you should do fine. But if you are from the west coast, don't waste your time, money or energy with Calgary. No matter how good you are, they won't hire you. I know a number of west coasters who went through the process and all have the same line. "Oh, you'll probably move back to the west coast after a year or two". Thats where it ends and then your out the door. After writing the test, doing the physical, passing the first interviews, then, sorry pal, see ya, go back to the west coast.

Hey Guest, you arent really Glenn in disguise are you? I know that Calgary can be tough on out of towners but there has also been several west coast people hired in the last couple years...food for thought.

Phil, Before you sit for the Calgary Police Service's polygraph examination, you would do well to educate yourself about polygraph testing. I don't know what CPS's polygraph failure rate is, but in the Los Angeles Police Department, it's nearly 50%, and in the San Diego P.D., about 40%. And yet the U.S. National Academy of Sciences recently found polygraph screening to be without validity. Clearly, many truthful applicants wrongly fail. I'm a co-founder of AntiPolygraph.org, a non-profit, public interest website dedicated to exposing and ending polygraph abuse. I invite you to download our free book, The Lie Behind the Lie Detector. Chapters 3 & 4 will be of special interest to you.

George, thank you very much for your response and your help.
I'm sure you would be pleased to know that I have in fact been reading and taking in the knowledge you have presented on your website. I am finding it to be most interesting, despite the fact that if this was a perfect world I would NOT fail the polygraph. However, due to its inherent flaws I am worried, and it is the only part of CPS's application process I am truly concerned about. Thank you very much, and if I do require further help I will be in contact with you.

No, but I did meet him in Naniamo doing the pare for the rcmp. Same story as me and a couple of my friends. I know they have hired west coasters before, but lately it seems impossible. He got a really good time on the pare. So hopefully we both have a shot at the rcmp this time around.

Romano, I was just reading some of the posts from back a couple of months ago up until present day. As a matter of curiosity and to help put my mind at ease, how was the CPS polygraph?

Phil, the CPS poly was not fun at all. It is 4 hours of pure stress. However if you tell the truth you should be ok...make sure that you have disclosed all that you have to on your PDF and then the poly will just be a matter of surviving. It's actually not as bad as I make it sound but I don't want to have to do it again.

Thanks man, I do appreciate your response. I hear its not a fun thing at all, and I'm concerned for it despite laying everything out on my PDF. I hope this will alleviate some of my concerns now that I know what its going to be like. Thank you.

Phil,
Read Romanos post "Two more years!!" regarding the CPS poly. Watch your back when you come to that stage. I got screwed by the CPS poly stage also. It is great you read about the poly on George Maschke's web site. It is absolutely invaluable. I wish I read it before I took my poly. I fell for a few classic polygrapher tricks and got screwed for life. Disclosing everything and telling the truth on a pre employment poly is only going to get you a deferal unless you are Cinderella. Good luck getting accepted to the Calgary Cowboys!
