Well, so much for my application. They are not recommending me to move on with the Security Clearance. I failed to disclose information (like when some lady hit my car in '92 or that I was late for school in '84, and forgot a speeding ticket...) BRUTAL!!! You can appeal their verdict...in about 2 or 3 months. Tiny stupid details canned my application...because of the phrasing of certain questions asked, I took them to mean one thing, when they were looking for another and answered accordingly. What can you do... put it up to experience and keep trying. Best of luck to the rest of you!
Cheers,

Did they really ask if you were late for school???
I'm surprised they would defer you for little stuf like you say...speeding tickets aren't a big deal unless it was during your applcation maybe?

Before they only asked to tell them things that only happened within the last 3 years... but then they asked about what happened in High School 21 years ago...well, I REALLY have no freakin idea. And when they asked about 'incidents' with the police previous, the tone of the asking, was, tell me about the things that happened in a negative way. So I didn't mention when some lady hit my car...and THAT was brought up, or that my apt was broken into once... How can that, which happened 18 years ago, affect my Security Clearance? No idea...
But now I know....so Ottawa Police...here I come!

The best bet is to "over" disclose. Anytime the police may have taken your information, ANYTIME! If you were the complaintant, witness or subject tell them. Even if you're not sure, tell them and they will tell you if it is relivant or not. I was telling the interviewer about times that I was just "there" and wasn't even spoken to by an officer. I even started going through the hundreds of times I dealt with the police through work (Security at a big mall). The thing is if you don't tell them about something then they assume there is a reason and wonder what else you aren't telling them. It may be small stuff, but with all the applicants that come through it's no big deal for them to cut the guy who didn't disclose everything for the guy who did (or girl!!). Sit down before the interview and try to think of every time that you had to deal with the police. If all you can remember was the approximate year and what what was going on then fine at least you told them something so when they check, it's there. Same thing happened to a buddy of mine. He was cut loose because they found out that when he was a bouncer some guy he tossed called the police on him and said that he had been assaulted. When the cops came they brushed it off and just laughed about it with my friend, so he didn't even think about it. It still came up in his back ground and got his file terminated.

Wish i knew about that before hand....I have talked to recruiting, and I told them what had happened with the Security Clearance. And I told her how I failed to disclose that I had my apt broken into, and that I wasn't told to mention everything good or negative run ins with the police....and that I couldn't remember what happened in high school 21 years ago. She started laughing...and she didnt' seem to think that it was a big deal... and she is going to call me soon as she gets my file. so maybe...? I had no 'bad' run in with the cops...no fear on that one. nothing to hide! all they had to do was ask the question properly.
back to the waiting game....
