I am in the background stage with the rcmp, my wife just told me she has a discharge for fraud from 4 years ago (fraud for $150 dollars). Am i going to fail the background because of her? someone please tell me. Thanks

Can't say whether that will fail your BGI or not, but it will definately be investigated thoroughly.

My best educated guess is that this is an issue they'll definitely ask about and perhaps look into BUT, I have doubts it would be something that would fail YOU. UNLESS,... there are some other circumstances or relevant issues you haven't mentioned that would warrant closer scrutiny. Generally, what someone else has done independent of you, (Related to you or not), MAY...not have any negative impact upon your application BUT,... it will likely depend upon the overall facts & circumstances surrounding your specific situation. -- Charlie

Hi,
I'm currently in the process of applying.
Friend of mine got refused because her ex-boyfriend had a criminal record for drug dealing.
Good luck.

Probably will get you disqualified because you "associate" with your wife. The RCMP do not want you to associate with persons that have had run ins with the law.

My thoughts...
I think due to the fact that your wife 'just' disclosed this 4 year old bit is concerning. The circumstances of the fraud are important too...$150 NSF check because the kids were starving vs used someones credit card to rack $150 in beer purchases is something to consider. Did you know your wife at this time...that is relavant.
Now I don't want to judge your wife, it is the public image (which is huge in policing where trust and integrity are paramount) and security risk of you they will look at. And making choices of who we associate with etc fits into that mix.
Another thing I always consider when someone discloses something to me is why they do so....in your case it appears it was going to come to light when you asked for all her details for your application. What about all the other things that she might have been involved in that may be in other police records, i.e a suspect in another fraud or whatever. Maybe a long talk with the wife would be good.
I assume you had you interview already....and you probably said that you wife is the cats meow. So now when, if, something comes out during the background checks your honesty may come in question. Maybe a call to your recruiter would help clear things up before they start finding stuff.
So no, I don't know if this will affect you. Only recruiting can tell you that...and that is of course based on allllll the circumstances. May sole bit of advise is to talk to them before they come to you.
Cheers, Cst. GOOSE
