Hello all. I heard today many police departments are concerned about reserve military forces activation because such a high number of their officers are also reservists that they could lose a great deal of manpower if the nation starts to kick ass overseas.
Does anyone have an opinion on how they would handle this situation? I thinking in terms of mandatory overtime, retired officer reinstatement, and finally hiring. I say hiring last as when the fighting is over and the reservists come back to their jobs, there is bound to be some displacement.
I'm just wondering how it might help the would-be police officer. Of course, in the event of a significant conflict, I'm sure most of the members here (myself included) would be just as willing to serve in a different uniform.

It shouldn't be a problem. The war will be over in less than 6 months. By the time they fired up the hiring the war would be over. Also in terms of casualties, more soldiers will probably be lost in vehicle accidents and miscommunication (friendly fire) than actual combat. The technology of our weapons today vs the old Russian equipment is pretty amazing. They might as well have sticks and clubs. I hope the CNN news crews are prepared to take in prisoners. I'm sure there will be a lot of surrendering. North Korea, now that would be a much bigger problem. Luckily the Chinese should be able to rein them in.

Lich, First I hope if we do go to war we go over to win and get it over with quickly. That being said I would forsee complete and total annihilation. Truthfully I wouldn't forsee and openings in law enforcement either. Like Epoxy said, the war would be over before the new leo's got their training done.
Let's all hope that the war can be avoided, but also pass along the message to our government that if you are going to do something, do it right!!!!

Back after a long vacation! Hope everyone's new year is starting off as they wanted it (Congrats on the new job T.Cote!!!!). I think this war on Iraq is a big mistake! Knocking off Sadaam at this point will leave a country in chaos ,and guess who will try to fill the power void-yep, then Iranians ( and they are still quite hostile to good ol' western powers) we still got the "war on terrorism" or has everyone forgot that taliban associated whackos are still around, and Afghanistan is still rolling like the lawless wildwest(plenty of guns and killers, lots of dope farms to finance the killers, but no gov't or nat'l infrastructure ), NOW N.Korea and their nuke program is a legit threat as , those commie nuts would sell a bomb for a bag of rice,2 lbs of coal, and 3 cans of spam in a hot minute-and since the only enemies they have are the U.S. ,U.K. S.Korea and Japan, any terrorist would be willing to plunk down 20-50 million for the "bomb";Hope your right T.Cote that the Chinese put a muzzle on them, but I'd doubt it (smells dangerously like the 2nd Korean war brewing......) As for Lichs' earlier thoughts about agencies vacancies- most agencies ,small and large , are jumping on the "Nat'l/homeland security wagon" so you might want to try going the reserve route to get in-m ost are opening up those positions, and small/large agencies are picking up their reverves as a quick fix to the recruitment problem.....
