Hello there everyone. I have completed the CPS process to the point where everything is out of my hands. Mid/late Aug. I passed the poly and psych. and now am waiting to hear anything about selection and further classes, as November is full. FManager said he has everything he needs for now and to hang in there. So, I am now thinking of everything I told them which is not good. Does anyone have any info about future classes or selection yet, the home visit later?

Hi there, My husband just got accepted to CPS a few weeks back. He chose the January class since we're out of Province and need to move to get there for the class start date. He passed everything at the end of July. It took awhile for the backgrounds to begin, they took about 2-3 weeks to get done, and then his file went to the selection committee in September and we heard back a couple days later that he was in . We didn't get a home visit so I can't give you any advice on that but I know many applicants do, especially if you're in town I would imagine. From what my husband's file manager said, January's class should have filled up this past week or next week I can't remember which so you're probably looking at the next class. Sorry, don't know when that would be for sure. What makes me nervous is that he won't get his offer letter until after medicals are done and that's not until December. There's no reason he shouldn't pass but I'm a "see it in writing" kind of person, especially when it involves moving and all. But I've never been given any reason to be concerned having only ever heard good things about CPS's recruiting. Hang in there, there's nothing more you can do but wait and although that's very, very hard, this too shall pass. All the best, D's Wife

Like your FM said, just hang in there. I know a guy who was finished everything and told verbally he was in, in Apr, but he not starting class until Nov 15th...for some reason it seems to take a little bit to get in a class with CPS. If you're past the selection comittee then i don't think you need to worry. They will get you in a class eventually.

D's wife must be living in some sort of box given the fact that she has "only ever heard good things about CPS recruiting..."

So here is an up date. Three weeks ago I called my file manager and spoke with him. He was surprised that I have not received anything and said they are tying up lose ends and to wait a week as I should be getting a letter in the mail. Four days later I found out that recruiting had talked to my boss about my attendance. No issue with attendance nor sick time so I think, great some progress. Another two weeks go by no other references checked nor any news from my FM . So I called and asked my FM, who then set up a meeting with me. Not sure what is going on here as I passed everything along time ago and I'm going crazy trying to figure out what is tripping me up. PS: If one more person says to me that the Police are taking anyone and it is so easy to get in, I will have to add a few things to my disclosure!

PS: If one more person says to me that the Police are taking anyone and it is so easy to get in, I will have to add a few things to my disclosure! I love hearing that line... Anyways...I wouldn't sweat it too much, it's frustrating I know...It is probably just something that can be easily explained. I know of a guy (call him Jack for story purposes) who had a problem come up during his BGI, apparently Jack's prints came back linked to a crime that had happened in the city. Needless to say his file manager wanted to have a little "chat". Turns out that Jack had handled a counterfit bill in his work duties, and when the police lifted prints off the bill they lifted his as well as others. One of the people that had handled the bill had been involved in the crime they thought Jack had been linked to. It took a couple of days of explaining and investigating but they eventually got it straightened out and he is in training as we speak. Moral of the story, try not to stress too much until you actually find out whats going on.

Well, four months after countless tests, interviews, phone calls and six years of working in law enforcement, I got my answer. I passed everything they threw at me and kept on the hook for four months only to be differed for 2 years? I'm not going to state excuses, I know why I didn't get in, and am very upset at the facts that have presented themselves over the last few weeks. I will not bad mouth CPS as I believe in the department, but some people in there need to go (or are already transferring to another department within). Do they not care that they are playing around with peoples lives? I shed a tear for all the good people that get turned away because of "politics". I shouldn't have got 2 yrs neither should two of my friends, who incidentally are better, smarter, and greater at their jobs then me, but also had the same FM and circumstances as me. I wish every one good luck and I will stop my rant as I try somewhere else, no longer paying attention to the bumper stickers on the hummer or the newspapers crying over the lack of qualified applicants the Police aren’t getting.

Sorry to hear that! I know how you feel though, I got the 2 year as well. CPS has "unofficialy" gotten rid of the 6 month and 1 year defferals, (although 6 month do happen for "some" people). If there is any doubt, they say see you in two years. Its unfortunate as they are losing a lot of qualified people to other services. Even members that I know have recomended friends apply after someone in recruiting told them their friend would be a great addition to the team. The friend applies...Oh, sorry try again in two years. Its unfortunate...

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago. I applied and passed everything with flying colors. My file manager even told me that she would be starting my backgrounds soon and that I should re-run my PARE and get my eyes checked again. Well low and behold I do all this and then it was like I fell off the face of the earth. File manager would not return my calls and I waited 2 months before I got the "take a 2 year hike" letter. Frustrated does not even begin to sum up my feelings of this. But 2 years have passed and I will be re-applying in the very near future. Hopefully things end differently this time.

I am considering re-applying to CPS in 2005, however I am getting married in August and in a perfect world I would like to apply, get hired and begin training in the fall. My question is when the best time to apply would be if I wanted to compete for a class in fall of 2005? Thanks

I have heard that people can appeal the length of the deferal period. Why don't you do that?

I didn't know you could appeal a time deferral. I knew you could appeal a life time deferral...I may have to look into that if I'm not successful with the mounties. I'm not a big fan of the shotgun application method. I would rather focus on one service at a time.
