Is anyone else in the U.S. having to deal with hiring freezes? I am one eligibility list for a department that is now on a freeze. I was scheduled to take the written for another dept., but just received a "we're now on a freeze" letter.
What should I expect to happen with regard to my status with the agencies?

Don't know what part of the country you are in , but most of So. California is hiring(come on out here). If you were in L.A. then you could find several agencies worth applying for. Depending on where you stand in the hiring process would determine if its worth the wait or time to lok else where.Getting into law enforcement is somewhat of a sacrifice(are you willing to relocate or wait in a job you don't want?).Some people apply for only one agency and get hired(sometimes waiting up to 2 yrs, like some of the hopefuls on this site that made it to the RCMP!!) and some move around until they get on with a dept.Don't get desperate as that will make you screw up on better decision making, but sit down and tally up your options. If you are employed now, keep working, paying your bills and get your body in shape-something will come through....

Several Iowa departments are under freezes right now. A girl I go to school with was almost in the door at Polk Co. SO but was informed a couple weeks ago that they're under a hiring freeze. I have wanted to join the State Patrol since high school but they haven't had an academy since 2001-however I was informed about a month ago that they will finally be taking apps in July of this year...which means that academy should be sometime in 2004 (I hope) because they're going to have to hire a lot of people, considering that they're down 50+ people now, and more to retire this year. Good luck, everyone
