I have a buddy at Depot right now and I talked to him last night. He told me that another 4 people got the boot for not passing the P.A.R.E.!!! I think last week it was 2 that got the boot. I understand that it's not easy (I'm in the background stage myself) but come on!! It's not like the recruiting process is fast, one has plenty of time to get in top shape before going to Depot. You would think that if your in the process it's probably your dream to be a Police Officer and then you gong yourself right off the bat. Anyway just a message to all that you must do it in 4:45 or you will be sent home, not a thought I would want to think about.

Dammit..I'd trade places with one of those guys any day. I've been working my ass off, I've got my time down to 3:14 now. I have a pare replica test set up in my garage area, it works out really well, I can then run it weekly (don't get the exact same result, but alteast I'm tryin).
I don't think I'd risk going to depot if my time was just 4:45 in the first place...but thats me.

Couldn't agree more!! I posted the same thing in regards to this on another forum. I'm sorry but 4:45 is enough time to WALK the f**king PARE and still pass!!! There is no excuse for not being able to do it in that time. If you're in even close to half decent shape you should be able to meet that bench mark!!! ...grrr... gonna stop now...

I agree, but...
Although I know some people can't get past the pare because they are just not in good enough shape.... anyone I saw at Depot not not make it was injured at Depot.
As for being under 4:45 for your final pare at depot - the benchmark you are aiming for is actually under 4:00.

I'm in pretty good shape, I play hockey but before getting seriouse about RCMP I didnt run much. I ran the pare & I must say, you should be able to do it without getting out of breath to much...it's not really that hard..the whole thing is the pace. Now, for people BARLEY getting 4:45...think about this for a sec. YOU NEED TO KNOCK OFF 45 seconds in order to get out of depot. That's A LOT to ask of someone. If anyone on this board is about to apply, just wrote the r-pat or is just thinking if they should...go to your local YMCA, run the pare...if your not getting around 4:15 ish, you probley wanna start running right away, run 3 times a week, use stairs in your exercise...do weight trainning...whatever it takes to get atleast 4 on your pare...thats what I'd set as a benchmark before even going to depot. I totally agree! also, remember that your final PARE also has a different wieght requirement. You will have 80lbs on the push/pull and 100lbs on the bag carry. I was ble to run the PARE for CPS (final PARE standards) in 3:26 and I am a smoker!! (tryin to quit...pray for mojo ;D )

Wanna learn a quick tip? I know it's gonna sound stupid, but trust me. I have a friend that suck with this & he quit smoking COLD turkey! Take an elastic band & put it around your wrist. Anytime you have an urge to smoke, take that band & pull it as far away from your wrist as possible...then let go. After 1 week or so, it's proven your brain starts to associate that pain with smokin...trust me, you won't wanna smoke to much. I've tried it all except hypnosis so far...

As for being under 4:45 for your final pare at depot - the benchmark you are aiming for is actually under 4:00. Another point to ponder is that most divisions have their pare setup different than depot. The one at depot is setup in a parallelogram apposed to a square. Rounding the pylons is quite a bit sharper in that kind of setup. If you don’t practice it that way you can expect to have an additional 10 – 20 seconds on your time. I would suggest that you should have your time near the 3:30 or lower prior to coming. And get in the best shape as you can, depot is coming down hard on it. Do sprints in your runs, for example if you are running on a street with street lamps do a light jog between the first three and then sprint to the next one, then light jog the next three to recover, and so on. If there is a pare setup in your area use it as often as you can, once a week would help a lot. You do lots of running at depot and if your legs and lungs aren’t use to it you will be spending valuable time trying to catch up. I say all this because I was one of those people who thought I would get into shape at depot rather than before…. very bad plan! Save yourself a bunch of pain and do it when you have the time, which is BEFORE you get here. Cheers all!
