Well I received my letter from the RCMP stating that I am not medically suitable for employment with them. Recruiting told me that the information regarding my medical past that I handed into them was not detailed enough.
Now, the doctor that treated me in 99 refused to write up a report concerning my medical history. I asked if I could just hand over my file to another doctor and get him/her to do it. They told me that it has to be the treating doctor who has to do it. Having this report done is the only way recruiting will open my file again and take a look at it. Now what? I have made many attempts to reach this doctor with no success.
Does anyone know if this issue with suicide and deppression as a teenager are going to affect me in the same way with every other force out there.
I hope my dream of becoming a police officer is not finished because of this.

Hello Frenchy,
I could understand how you must be frustrated!
Regarding the issue of the doctor refusing to write a detailed report:
- Have you tried sending him a written request?
- Also, I would suggest you contacting the College of Physican in your province to inquire about your rights and the procedure to have your medical history documented and the legality issues surrounding the consent to release your info. I know in Ontario, the patient needs to give explicit consent before a healthcare provider could release info regarding a patient's mental health to a third party.
I don't know how a history of suicide and depression would affect your application. However, if you've had other assessments and treatments by other healthcare providers, it wouldn't hurt to get them to provide an update or progress report to the RCMP.
Best of luck!
Bernie

If you have had knee surgery getting cartiledge removed a few years ago, will that effect your medical? help??? Yes it will. I had orthoscopic surgery done about 5 years ago, and I'm still waiting for my interview, since Medical Services has to give me clearance before I can proceed in the process. It shouldn't be a problem though as long as the knee is no longer a problem...I needed to send all my info to Med Serv. for review. They cleared me klast time I applied so it shouldn't be a problem this time.
