I have worked as a reserve. They basically fill the extra needs of officers for certin situations. For example maybe it is a tourist town and in the summer they need more foot patrol officers then other times of the year. You basically control traffic, parking, alot of the time this is done on a bicycle.
I was a reserve for the summer, then they kept a select few of us on for the rest of the year. We were cruiser trained and went through all of the mandatory yearly training that full time officers went through.
As a reserve at that point I had all the same responsablities any patrolman had.
