Hello Sean, I'm from NB and just applied for auxiliary with the RCMP. Just go to your local RCMP Det. and they will give you all the papers to fill out. I made it clean to the interview stage of being a regular member this summer but never made it over past money problems so I have to go through the whole process again next Nov So I'm applying for Aux while I'm in the waiting process to gain some experience. I have just become an Aux Cst in NS....it is a long trip....I had an interview back in May of 2004....and were I have been a summer student and had worked 2 summers, and I'm a detachment assistant in Halifax...there were allot of the clearances/back ground checks that I did not have to do because all of mine was all current....but it still took me a year!!!! to that. I just signed my oath to office today, and I'm still waiting for my uniform and kit to come in that has been back ordered for 2 months.....its a great program.....gives you allot of knowledge, and able you to help your community....I've wrote my RPAT 2 times with a score of a low 3.03....but I will not give up hope.....
For any younger ppl out there thinking about joining the RCMP....please please get out there in your community and volunteer....VOLUNTEERING really does make a difference...I'm only 22 years, I've got a great job, been on my home town fire department for 7 years, and now i can add Aux Cst to my list...
anyone wanting any information on this program can drop me a line at tress207@eastlink.ca if i cant help you I will find the answers....look forward to hearing from everyone...
Best of luck to everyone !!!!!
from a local detactment website.......
RCMP Auxilary Constables are volunteers and play an important role in assisting regular members in their communities. Sworn in as Special Constables under the Nova Scotia Police Act, they become uniformed peace officers but are not issued a firearm. To become an Auxiliary Constable, the candidate must be 19 years of age or older, have at least a grade 12 level education, and pass a medical and security clearance. Once accepted, specialized training begins. Auxiliary members are taught basic policing techniques and statute law.

Sean,
I'm the auxiliary coordinator in my detachment, and thought I'd give some insight.
First, the Auxiliary program is run by policy both out of Ottawa, as well as by each Division. In K Division, there is a strong preference AGAINST applicants to any police force. This is due to the 2 year committment required for the program. It takes a lot of time and effort to sign an auxiliary up, and we don't like to do that if we are going to lose them within the two years.
Secondly, the recruitment process for an auxiliary is similiar to that of a regular member. Physical fitness, medical health, security interview/screening, etc are all parts of the process. And it does take time.
However, it's a great program, and I wish you all the best in getting into it. While it doesn't provide any formal benefit for applying to any forces, it fulfills two parts of your application process (volunteerism and knowledge of what policing is all about).
Cheers, RY
