During the "pre-test" phase (before you're hooked up to the polygraph instrument), you may be asked dozens of questions. Some departments have applicants fill out a pre-polygraph questionnaire that may run over a hundred questions. But during the "in-test" phase, the number of questions is typically limited to about 10-12 and consists of a mix of relevant, irrelevant, and so-called "control" questions. During the "post-test" phase, if any, you may be interrogated at length about any of the questions asked.
