I've been using the PARE prep guide to follow along as a workout program. I have completed that workout guide and have just been continuing on my own. Does anyone have any suggestions on sites/books/programs that they use and like?

Hello Impy, How much more time do you have before running the pare?? I got ready for mine in less then 3 weeks, I was surprised that I got my packet so quick and didn't really get ready for the pare. On of my RCMP friends helped me to get ready and what he made me do was run 400 meter sprints as fast and as hard as I could. I also ran on the treadmill, only 1 mile though, and tried to keep improving my time each time. One other thing he got me to do was to use a bike at the gym and make the pedaling as hard as it gets and go as fast as i could for as long as i could, which wasn't to long, LOL. Hope this helps.

How fast are your 1 mile or 1.5mile times? I started running on solid ground about a month ago, where I used to train on the elipitical runner. The first few days I struggled big time, I believe the reason is running on solid ground requires utilizes muscle groups. Now I can do 1.5 miles in roughly 17 minutes, I would like to reduce the time to 12 minutes by late August.

I still have quite a bit of time until I have to run the PARE. I haven't even gotten my RPAT score back yet. Most of my cardio has been on the elliptical and recumbant bike. When I have used the treadmill, I was on a pace of 9 minutes for each mile (in cross-training mode). I'm not concerned about the physical aspect, I am more looking for methods that others are using. I was using the 3-month PARE prep guide I downloaded from some RCMP site.

When I started the 1 mile run on the treadmill I could do it in around 9:30 and after the 3 weeks I got it down to 8:20 or so. Not real good but it was enough to get me started especially for a ol guy like me ;D LOL Tim
