I would like to apply to the Edmonton Police Service; however, I have some issues with the personal disclosure form. First, what past behavior would disqualify me (i.e. would having had sex in public, or masturbating while driving, or spying on other apartments with binos, experimental drug use 10 plus years ago)?

Hey, I'm not sure how much you'll have to disclose...
Drug use - for sure
Other stuff - Did you get caught? They'll ask if you've had any run-ins with the police. This would be the time to mention it

No, I have had no run ins with the Police, no problems with past employment, an awesome career to date that is not Policing related. I haven't made up my mind whether to apply or not.....I am leaning towards not applying as I can't see myself trying to lie or withold info. I have made some mistakes in my past, but who hasn't.

Sex in public? Big deal. Lucky you to find a girl so sure with herself and experimental. A healthy sex life is extremely important so long as you were not trying to expose yourselves and purposely be seen by others. Masturbating while driving? 99% of all guys masterbate. The other 1% are liers! Masterbation for guys is as natural as breathing. Where you did it is no big deal either so long as it was not some sort of attempt at exposure. You were driving, you had an uncontrollable urge to let some steam off so you cleared your head. No pun intended. Spying on other appartments? I defy anyone here to say they have not at one time or another done that themselves. So long as you don't make a habit out of it. Now if you are combining the three you may have a problem! If you sit on your porch masterbating and having sex while you are spying on the old lady across the street with your binos you have issues! LOL Drug experimentation? Who hasn't? As long as it was just that. Any hard drugs like cocaine, meth, LSD, herion, etc you are probably done if you disclose that. Soft drug experimentation like pot, hash, mushrooms so long as it was a couple of times sort of thing and longer than say 3-5 years ago you are fine. When you mention or say the things you have potentially done all at once like you did in your post you elicit responses of shame and disgust like the response from the recruit1. People instantly conjure up the thought that you are pathological and have a sex fetish or perversion. If the things you mentioned are mostly one time experimentation type ordeals then I would say you are just a normal guy. Keep in mind that if you disclose all those things on a questionaire the polygrapher will assume just what therecruit did (pervert) and tear you apart during the poly. It is illegal for them to ask you on the questionaire about your sexual orientation, sexual past, whether you masterbate, etc but they do ask those type illegal questions on the poly. Inform your self about the poly. Check out www.antipolygraph.org so you don't fall for the crap they pull during a poly. They want you to think the thing actually works when all it does is try to scare you into thinking it does and therefore you confess all to the priest/polygrapher however they are not priests. they are there to get those confessions out of you. A couple of the things you have mentioned are no big deal as far as I am concerned but give those tidbits of info to the right polygrapher and you will come out of the test a perverse, peeping tom, who masterbates on his deck, likes to get high and engage in sexual intercourse with prostitutes in public malls and street corners!

Guest, sounds you like you are another disgruntled poly failure....too bad for you. But if you believe that masturbating while driving isn't a concern than I'm glad you failed because you have issues too. Yes it is perverse not to mention extremely unsafe! Combined with spying on apartments is sure to raise red flags to any polygrapher or recruiter.
