Hi, all. I stumbled onto this site a couple of days ago, and it is nice to see that there are people in the same boat as me. I am writing the RPAT on June 25, and am trying to cram as much info into my brain as possible. It's comforting to read some of the previous entries and get some answers to some of the many questions that I have. Hopefully all goes well, and I can continue to chat with all of you.

Good Luck on the RPAT JamJam!
Remember, get a good night's sleep the night before, and plan to arrive 30 minutes before the test starts so that you aren't rushed.

Good luck JamJam, and just remember that common sense is king when it comes to the RPAT...and good memory skills of course. What do you need for a mark to get your package?
I'm currently at the interview stage, and wrote my RPAT in Division "K" in Sept of 02...Just relax and you'll be fine!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys. Tim, I am writing the RPAT in Kamloops, BC. It sound like the chances of getting my package and continuing on are good, with all the hiring that is going on here in E Division right now. I am aiming for 4.0 or higher on the RPAT, though. I fugure with a score of that, I will get my package either way. Have any of you heard about the new test that accompanies the RPAT now? It sounds like there are around 100 questions or situations that you are to comment on. You are given choices like, I strongly agree, I agree, I disagree, I strongly disagree, or neural. I was told by the officer doing the information session that this was to start in May of this year. Supposedly, this new system will even out the odds for people that aren't quite so book-smart. I don't know, I haven't been through this process before, so I don't really have an opinion on it. I guess next Thursday I will, though.

I haven't heard anything about that part...didn't even know they had changed/added to the existing one...hmmm. Interesting idea though...maybe I should write again so I can see the new questions!! ;D

Hey Jamjam, I had a friend here in NB write the RPAT in may and he told me that they did add another part to the test which takes about another hour to complete. I think the questions were just commom sense mostly to see it your mentally stable or something like that, nothing to worry about. Sure hope you make it, we're all rootin for ya. ;D ;D ;D

So how did you guys all find the RPAT? Was it all that you expected, or were you suprised by alot of the questions? I've only talked to a couple of people that have written it. It sounds like common sense is a major issue, and if you go into the exam thinking straight, then you should do alright. My math and english skills haven't been a problem in the past, but you never know.

I found that the study guides that you can get from most book stores helped me get in the right frame of mind.. For the Word definition portion you will have to read all the strange words in the dictionary to have a chance

Hey Jamjam, I wrote the RPAT in November 2002 and found it had similar questions to what was in the RCMP RPAT Study Guide, just a bit more in depth. I didn't do too bad and scored 4.03/5.00. Just use common sence for the judgement questions, and you'll be ok. Reb So how did you guys all find the RPAT? Was it all that you expected, or were you suprised by alot of the questions? Hey, Reb and Onedaysoon.
Thanks for the input. The questions on word definitions sound like they are pretty wild. I don't think that there is enough studying that can be done to prepare for those questions. I guess the thing is, the RCMP aren't looking for rocket scientists for recruits. If you have your head on your shoulders and have good common sense, then in theory all should go well on the test.

One thing I found helpful for the Judgment questions was the New York City Police Officer Study Guide. I forget the exact title, but there were many sections on judgement situations where they gave you the answer as well as some reasoning behind it.
I believe Ace13 gave a good tip for the memory section...turn license plates into words that flow together. For example, 286 BFS could be 286 Birds Fly South.
For math and reading comprehension, borrow a grade 8-9 math and english textbook. Keep doing problems over and over again.
For the vocab...well...I hope you're a good guesser. Those words are impossible.

I picked up Barron's Police Officer Exam. I have been doing some of the problems in there and it has helped me a bunch. There are some good pointers in there for studying. That tip on the licence plates is perfect!! Here in Kamloops, every Tuesday four mugshots are printed along with all their information, and also there is a list of stolen vehicles from the last week. I take five minutes and try to memorize all this information. Then a half hour or so later, I write down everything I can remember. It really helps. It sounds like this would be similar to what is on the RPAT. With the tip on the licence plated, I will try it again.
Thanks Dave!!

The additional section that now accompanies the RPAT is like a suitability thingie (to be technical about it ;D )
It questions like: "I enjoy working with my hands" Stongly Agree Agree Disagree Strongly Disagree
They do not alot a great deal of time to complete it so you cannot over-think the questions to give them the results they want for police officer.. all you can do is read and answer.
I write the RPAT on Aug 21, I am right now an S/Cst. in the RCMP Summer Student Program. All my information about the RPAT was from the info session I had while being trained at Depot this past May.
