I would have posted this in the polygraph threadbut that seems to have gotten a bit out of hand. This is one of the questions on my app. Here is my response:
"Have taken a t-shirt from a friend, a knife from a fraternity brother, a paperback book from a former employer about 15 years ago. Shoplifted a few pieces of candy from a store 16-18 years ago, and a velcro watchband from Wal-Mart. "
My question is, hos is the wording on here? In my response, I specifically used the word "taken" instead of "stolen," even though I did steal it. It seems like the more I think about it, the more I can remembe things I've taken in my life. For instance, I am fairly sure I also shoplifted something cheap from Wal Mart for my car about 10 years ago, but I don't remember what it could have been. I've also taken 2 reams of paper from my current employer, which at the time I figured was justified since the employer is my father and since I've used about $100 of my own money to buy office supplies for the office. But I'm worried if I will evoke a guilty response on the poly.
And lastly, what is everyone's opinion regarding digital theft? I've downloaded hundreds of MP3s to my computer that I, in effect, "stole." I've also downloaded software to my computer before that I didn't pay for. Should I include this?

Yeah, I had the same thoughts running through my head. The best thing people told me was that I was thinking about it too much. I would say to list everything you can think of, because they really don't care about the stuff you've stolen. It would be different if you put down there "i broke into a car and stole a radio." They understand that people have made mistakes, and their biggest thing is to just make sure that you have either learned, or haven't done it in a while. As far as MP3's, I would say that since its not an actual physical item that you have taken from a store, its not an issue. However, I did list the MP3's I downloaded just so I wouldn't have that in the back of my head. Just list it all; its not like they are perfect either, and they don't expect you to be.
