hi, i am an irish citizen with strong family ties in the usa. after college i expect to either join an garda siochana (irish police) or emmigrate to the usa and become a cop there. Does anyone know of any state that allows non-citizens to become police officers, i know california does.

I can't be of much help there, but why the US?? Canada is MUCH better!!! ;D ;D especially the force...OK, I'm gonna run before people start throwing things.... If you are interested in RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) check out the recruiting section of their website for more info... www.rcmp.ca/recruiting/index_e.htmIt says you must be a canadian citizen, but I don't know about sponsorship... I was told by the LAPD that you need a green card to become an officer there. Coming from Canada I would have to apply and hopefully get one in about 10 years or go down to the nearest bar over the border and see if any girls there wanted to get married?! I don't know if this would apply to you but going through the regular hoops to get a green card takes in the order of years unless that has changed?
