I am going through the interview process in northern Illinois and have passed the written and physical tests. My next hurdle is the interview process. It is a merited deputy sheriff position and i'm interviewed by three persons. I plan to dress professional, but Im just curious what they are going to be looking for and is there anything I can prepare for.
thanks in advance

Red;
I can suggest going back and reading the Board for answers to similar questions.
By all means, wear a suit, and tie, have shined shoes, and a fresh haircut, no ear rings or nose rings.
Be prepared to answer, "why do you want to be a sheriff", "why do you want to work for this department", there will be some ethics questions, such as would you turn in a fellow cop if you saw him stealing.
When answering, look at the questioners, all of them, not just the one that asked the question. "Yes Sir, or "No Mam" will go a long way with the Board. Don't try to BS them, they have heard it all, you won't have anything new.
These commissioners meet with other commissioners from other towns and compare notes, so if you have been around the block a few times, make sure your answers are consistant with the last interview, as far as facts go anyhow.
Good luck. JimCMR

make sure you take a deep breath and relax. maybe get some friends together for a mock interview. be prepared to answer the above questions but also....what will you bring to this department. and almost most importantly "what have you done to prepare for this position?" eye contact will go a long way and so will posture. also, just plain smile. dont try to look tough and cop like. they will be looking for someone that will be easy to work with and pleasant and respectful while at the same time assertive. dont dwell on anything and remember, dont go out of your way to impress. your attitude will be what they remember.
