If someone can help me out here. When I was a juvenile I was arrested for shoplifting. How bad will this affect my chances of being hired as a police officer.

I'll be 25 in Oct., also a veteran from the Army, and will have my bachelor in Law Enforcement in Dec.

From what I've read, this shouldn't prevent you from a career from L.E. as long as you disclose the information in the background phase.

Moose--
It will depend upon the following factors:
* How long ago was the arrest? * The totality of the circumstances surrounding your arrest? (what was taken and how much was it worth?) * The department you're applying with for a job.
Departments differ on their hiring standards and qualifications. So, it would be best to discuss you particular situation with a recruiter from whatever department you decide to apply with for a position.
My best guess is it MAY not be a real issue but as suggested previously, make sure you disclose the information on your background appropriately. You can bet they'll check up on this issue in your past.
