Great message board, very informative. I'm currently awaiting a interview with the RCMP. I really don't have any volunteer experience to speak of. I do have a fairly diverse back ground in law enforcement in various Special Constable positions in the province of Alberta. I was wondering if anybody knows what kind of affect not having any volunteer experience will have on my chances? Will my work experience and education make up for my lack of volunteer work? Thanks, in advance for any advice provided.

I dont think that having zero volunteer work would disqualify you, but be creative.
Do you donate old clothes to Salvation Army/Diabetes/CF?
Do you donate blood?
Even if you haven't done these, there's no better time to start like the present. Even helping out in your religious place as an usher looks better than having a blank. From what I gather, the volunteer work is used to select two candidates with similar qualities; the one with volunteer work would get the offer.

I agree with DaveTO...volunteer work isn't "required" but strongly recomended. Like Dave mentioned doesn't have to be LE related, it just helps to show that you are interested in helping people not just making money. You don't require alot either, usually 2-4 hours a week will do the trick. Pretty small commitment when you think about, and it has a big pay off.
