Hi im new to this post but i have a question regarding background... when i was younger i stole money from my first employer this was when i was 15 then in highschool me and my friends used to shoplift from the mall ? I have no doubt i will be honest during the interview process but what do you guys think my chances are of getting hired... i have not stole anything in 5 years since Highschool any advice would be great i have worked at a probation department and the dept i applied for has recieved 3 recomendations on my part from a congress man, a senator and a federal judge i dont want to leave these people down ?

I think that if it was one incident, it will not disqualify you, especially since it was while you were a teenager. It will be weighed against you, so be ready to show how you've learned from the experience. Also have community involvement, good marks, and other bonuses to offset your past.
I dont know where you live, but most Canadian LE agencies are not really eager to hire 20 year old males...especially with a record. Best bet is to try and get some life experience under your belt, and it will also put some time between you and the theft incident
