Have just been accepted into CPS's August class. I am going to be relocating from BC and am looking for shared accomodation or ideas on accomodation for first few months. Wife and baby aren't moving out to Calgary until December. Anyone else in this class in same predicament...? What have previous recruits done in the past for relocating to Calgary? We are buying house but probably won't get until spring. Would be nice to find something as close as possible to training facility.

First off, congrats on doing what I and many others have been trying to do! As far as buying a house, etc, I wouldn't jump on that too quickly. As you may know, our real estate market is ridiculously hot right now, and living anywhere close to downtown where the training centre is, will cost you dearly. Renting is expensive in itself, nevermind buying. There are LOTS of great shared accomodations that you can find in outlying communities (McKenzie, etc) that are not as far from downtown as people make them out to be. I can get from McKenzie Lake in the SE to downtown in 20 mins in bad traffic.. not too shabby. Keep that in mind.

Renting in Calgary CAN be expensive, but its all in where you are. Close to downtown will cost more obviously, but like Phil said there are cheaper rentals farther out that are still quick access to DT. Rental market is pretty hot right now, with LOTS of vacancies, esspecially in the areas around the schools, as most students have moved out now. Just on my way into DT today, I counted 10 houses for rent. Check out www.homerent.ca/index.cfm they have a really good listing to choose from. Good luck with your training!

I got the call a week ago today. I only sent my application to CPS in January, and now I only have 2 and a half months until I start. I also applied for the RCMP but their process is much slower. I would prefer to get on with CPS anyways. They seem quite reputable and I am looking forward to living in Calgary. Not too fond of moving around with the RCMP (family).

Good luck Tigger. You will enjoy the training, I have 4 buddies that just graduated about 2 weeks ago. I hope your running is up to speed, as CPS does ALOT of running, usually 5km a day.

Congrats,
I have few questions in regards to the timeline. Could you please give me your email address or if you can contact me at micro_signer@hotmail.com
I applied in December, passed everything in March. Still waiting to hear from them. I dont know how all this works. My Bg hasnt started yet. How long it took them to complete your BG? and how long after you heard from them. Im from BC as well and will be relocating with family if all goes well.
Goodluck

Tigger
I moved from Vancouver Island to be with CPS. Love it here. Anyways, you have until August to look for a house.. so much to consider...$$$$ wise.
I moved to Airdrie, its great, lots of coppers out here. Also Okotoks is nice too. Or the south east has lots of affordable new homes. Check out the MLS sites for homes, thats how I bought my house.
If you just want to rent until you move the rest of the family out, ask your recruiter, he/she may have leads on suites..driving is really easy compared to Vancouver..rush hour is really not that bad. From Airdrie it took me about 30mins.
Sam00,
Have patients, I know its hard but it does look like your moving along pretty fast. Once they started mine it was done in a week. Then another week for recruiting to review it and then sign it off. Don't worry, I am sure BGI are busy, they will call you and set up an appointment with you and your family...if you have one. Then you know you are almost there. My buddy is graduating in June.. he was the same way and it all came to be, he is from Vancouver as well.
Hang in there.
Boyscout.
