Hello, I will be going to my first interview tomorrow, and have been thinking a lot about why I want to become a police officer. I am just wondering what others people's reasons were for becoming a police officer, and if they are glad that they made the decision to become a police officer.
Also, has anyone been asked if they have ever done drugs or done anything illegal, like stealing, in their interview?
I would appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Chris

Good Luck! I'm sure that you will do well, I'm not a police officer yet, but I can tell you the reason why I want to become one is that I care about people and feel I would be well suited in law enforcement. I've been working in Human Services for about 4 years now and have seen all sorts of things. I see folks that have been in the system many times and are already on probation and parole by the time they see me. I want to be on the street and do my part to make my area safe. Piper

:)My answer to why I wanted a job in law enforcement is as simple as... I've come to the reality that I'm not going to win a superjackpot lottery and my parents aren't wealthy so I not going to inherit a big wheelbarrow of money. I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to work everyday of my life. If this is the case then I want a job thats just not another job, I want a career that I can work my way to the top and that I can go home each day feeling satisfied that I did my part. Being apart of something that is far greater then just me there aren't many careers that fall into this realm. As far as answering questions about your background. Be honest because they start listening from the time you walk though the door. Stick to what you tell them. None are your friends, they have a job that you want and they are looking in you for a reason to hire you or not. 8)Be honest....fight the good fight....Keep us posted Good luck

It's really funny that someone happened to reply to my post from 2-1/2 years ago just yesterday. It just so happens that I graduated from the Police Academy yesterday. I hit the street on this coming Monday evening. It goes to show how long a process this can be from begining to end.

HAHahah.. omg.. that is so funny! Well Congrats! My Bf is in the final stages of his application process, it has been 9 months since he wrote the RPAT. His application has been flying (we are in 'E' Div). His interviewer said for him to be prepared to go to Depot in August/September if everything checks out. Once again Congrats on teh interview
