8) Hello all. My name is Vince. I'm 26, Married w/2 kids. I was recently laid-off from my job a Heavy Aircraft Maintenance Repair facility. In the days since my carieer's demise, I have come to realize that I must find a carieer that is recession proof. I have considered Law Enforcement on more than one occasion. I have a rather pathetic background in Security Service's while attempting to complete the requirements for LE.
The events of 9-11-01 have impacted me on many levels. Financialy being the prominant of them. I began to consider the question "well now what do I do". I have always wanted my life to mean something, perhaps thats why I'm considering Law Enforcement again.
Anyway, I stumbled accros this page while researching the requirements for PD in my area. Thought perhaps I could find some useful information in here. Really hopping to get to know you folks and offer my support to you as we all investigate and strive toward a comon goal.
God Bless, Vincent

Greetings Vince--Sorry to hear about your recent lay off. I think a lot of current LE professionals have walked in your shoes before and have found themselves in the profession. Sometimes, some things work in mysterious ways to find one's true calling. For some, the LE profession is just that, their true calling. With that being said, that might be a question you ought to seriously ponder yourself before you start investing a lot of time and energy of getting into the profession. "IS the LE profession what you truly want to do?" I think you are on the right track by doing some research into your local PD to find out "WHAT" their qualifications are to get on board. ;D I would also encourage you to find out IF they also have a web site. Sometimes, you can find a wealth of information available about the department via the web site. Including the department's recruitment information as well. Qualifications and requirements are NOT the same at every department. They do sometimes differ vastly. So do some checking. I would also suggest that you surf the following web site. It might be helpful: LAW ENFORCEMENT SITES ON THE WEB www.ih2000.net/ira/ira.htmThe only thing that puzzles me about your post is your comment about: "I have a rather pathetic background in Security Service's while attempting to complete the requirements for LE." Not sure what you mean by that statement so, it's difficult to assess and lend advice concerning that particular issue. Nevertheless, I hope I may have helped in some way. There are also others here who often lend some very helpful information as well. Good luck to you. 8) Charlie

vince, welcome to the board. ;D sorry to hear of your layoff, been there done that . i can only echo charlie's thoughts on your issue. one thing i would like to add is that while you are researching a career in law enforcement, you may want to consider going back to school, even for only an associates....if this is possible. the reason i say this is b/c getting an le job is ever so competitive, and many p.d.'s are requiring some college work. getting hired somewhere is often a long process, and frustrating . just my thoughts....best of luck to you and your family . junior

Great having you here Vince. I always like seeing people bettering themselves. Sorry to hear about your layoff but as you well know destiny is a funny thing. Maybe you were destine to become a Police Officer. It's a long road, very competive but well worth the the fight. Don't give up, because if this is truely what you want then you may have to apply several times before your picked up. I think everyone here on this site can attest to that. Good luck, let us know, keep the faith.... 8)

;D Thanks for all the welcomes and votes of confidence. Just to update you real quick, I am looking into the LE AS degree at the local JC. I have also filled out paper work at the local PD for something called a ride along. Not sure if anyone has heard of this, but it does sound intresting. Now for the funny part. I heard about this ride along thing a couple of days ago from a Cop. Now the funny thing is that I wasn't talking to him just for s&g, .... I was in hand cuffs. . I was walking up to my favorite guitar store when I was approached by two officers who wanted to speak to me. So naturally intreagued, I stoped to chat. The next thing I know, I'm being hand cuffed, (for their safety of course). They started asking me all sorts of questions about who I was, where I was going, what I was doing there. After about ten minutes of this I finally started getting concerned and asked "Why am I wearing these tri colbolt schackles plese?". To which they replied "you perfectly match the physical discription of an armed individual who just got away with $50,000 from the bank accross the street. Well, needless to say I found the whole thing absolutly hilarious. After confirming that I was not the suspect in question, I was released, thanked for being cooperative, and sent on my way. Minutes later I found myself in the store buying strings and laughing the entire time. Everyone take care. I'll catch up with ya'll later.
