Hello all. I have been applying to all pd.s within a reasonable commute from my home for the last 2 years. One issue/problem that I have is that I always seem to pass any written examns, but never score very well. Example if the minimum is a 70 to pass, I'll score a 77. How can I study or improve my test score. I understand this score is determined in who they interview first. Is that true. I look forward to hearing from you and think that alot of advice I have read on this board is quite good. Keep up the good work.

Trevor:
There are many study guides available, read some of the past posts on this board, and you will find many listed. Barrons and Cliffs to name a couple. You will need to find the ones that cover the type of tests that are given in your area.
Since you are passing, you should have a good idea of the areas you are unsure of. Try to remember the questions that you had difficulty with, and research them right after the test.
Each department used a different method to decide the order of oral interviews. When i was interviewing, I would try to sechdule the ones who lived furthest away for the later times, just as a courtesy.
Everyting you take a test you should get a little higher score, as you will see the same questions many times.
So just keep at it, and try to improve on your oral interview skills, so that may bring up your overall score.
Good luck, and welcome to the Board. JimCMR

trevor, the only advice that i can give you is from my own experiences with written exams . the majority of exams that i have taken have all consisted of reading comp, vocab, spelling, grammar, and some writing . i have always been told the best way to prepare for these types of exams is to read everything. newspapers, magazines, books, etc. by doing this you will increase your vocabulary and at the same time increase your ability to comprehend what you read . you may also want to look into getting an a.c.t. study guide. sometimes people are not good standardized test takers. just do your best and keep trying . good luck to you. junior 8)
