To what extent do you have to demonstrate knowledge of current events and political issues? For example, community events and/or problems, global concerns, political cases, opinions on death penalty and legal systems, etc. It's been mentioned to me a time or two, so I just want to make sure I am prepared well in advance.

tommy, i would recommend having a strong knowledge on current events, especially those pertaining to law enforcement. you just never know what you may be asked in an oral board ;D. it would also be very wise to know what current events are happening in the community. probably more so than on a national level. by knowing what is going on you can use this to your advantage. more than likely you will be asked why you want to work for that city/dept. with a knowledge of what is going on you can incorporate it in your answer . junior 8)

Tommy:
Get the daily newspaper, and READ it, not just the comics, but the stories, and editorials. If you live in a small community, get the local paper, usually a weekly.
That is the best way to keep current, and it will be a big help if you are asked such questions.
Good luck. JimCMR
