background question

I just left a city agency... They were saying extra equipment was issued to me per other trainee's in my class. After 45 minutes of questions they finally asked me if I had any extra equipment... I said Yes I have an extra eight point hat... big deal right?
Well two days later I was called into the Sgt. office to be asked if I had anyother extra equipment, I answered no. Then they stated that I had all kinds of extra equipment. The next day I was called down to the LT. Col. office where he stated that there was an intergerty issue with me. He then told me he was close to terminating me. He then asked me if I had this that and everything else. Note: There's nothing in the directives stating one can't have extra equipment... (The class commandor gave me the extra hat.) He then said that wasn't the problem since I said I had that... Anyway with him telling me he was close to firing me I said I was going to quit...
With that said he said he was going to take it up a notch and do a criminal investigation... Since I was an out of state app. he said he was going to get the police in my city involved. After keeping me in a room with two officers they let me leave (seemed like they let me leave after I said this wasn't right to hold me and not let me make any phone calls. Meanwhile I was ordered to let them search my car. Pretty crazy huh. Anyway with that said my question is if I go through the hiring process with another agency would this hold me back from getting hired? I'm not sure if there saying they fired me or if I quit... Either way do you think This will hold me from getting hired from another agency? Thanks in advance for any info.

Sam--From what you've explained, this doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense on the part of the agency that was asking you a lot of questions concerning the extra equipment.   I fail to comprehend and understand why, seemingly, this was made into a mountain when, perhaps, we're dealing with a molehill issue. (Unless there is more to this than what you've explained). I mean, if the issue was you were not permitted to have more than one six-pointed hat that you got from the class commander, then why didn't you tell them this and they could have verified this with the class commander??? I am also confused about why they kept asking you about having other equipment after you told them you had the hat. And why did your classmates or trainees say you had other equipment? Why would they say this?

I am not quite sure what went on with this situation based on what you've posted here but I will say it sounds like there is a lot more to this.  

As for whether or not this can effect your chances on getting hired somewhere else, .....yes it could for obvious reasons. What will most likely happen is: You'll reach the background check point and you'll have to explain to the background investigator (B.I.) what happened with this whole ordeal. Then, of course, the B.I. at your prospective aganecy will contact this other agency to find out what happened. Obviously, what the agency will say about this situation will be weighed heavily and deemed to be credible information by the B.I. Whether or not you got fired or resigned in lieu of being fired or, freely resigned on your own really won't make any difference in this situation I think. The B.I. will definitely contact the other agency to get the scoop.

My advice is, especially if this was possibly as we say, "a deal" (Which loosely translated means a highly unusual circumstance beyond the norm) is to thoroughly explain what happened to the B.I. I know and understand that sometimes people can become a "victim" per say under certain kinds of circumstances or situations for a variety of reasons. I would also perhaps consider providing the B.I. with references that could help verify or support your explanation concerning this situation. Maybe other classmates or instructors who are knowledgable of your situation could be of help. ;D

Bottom line is: It will depend on the overall circumstances of this incident to determine whether or not someplace else will hire you. At this time, based on known information you've provided, I would have to say your chances are uncertain.
