Does anyone know how much detail an agency can tell a BI from another department. I am talking about the things that may come up in the BI or things that are written down on the questionnaire when we disclose the ilegal or innapropriate things we have done in the past. From what I understand, although we sign a waiver saying other departments may have access to our application information, a department can not just blurt out everthing. I am thinking of the circumstance from the other message and the guy being questioned regarding his possession of extra-equipment.

ross, it is to my understanding that they can share whatever they want . especially when it comes to any negative information regarding a perspective candidate . that doesn't necessarily mean that you will be dq'd. some depts will accept past behavior(s) that others will not . junior 8)

Regarding the Backgrounds-civil service requirements are supposed to keep unnessary "opinions" about an employee out of any background investigation by another agency or entity. If you sign a waiver form, which most agencies will have you do ,in order to start the background checks, then your employer can only allow a limited amount of confidential info. like date of employment, sustained disciplinary actions, training info/history,attendance,performance evaluations, commendations.WHAT they should not do is release grievances you have had against your job, current in progress disiplinary investigations, written or oral comments about you personally or professionally ,without your knowledge ,or approval. "in the real world",however, BI Investigators "do ask" and some supervisors "do tell" and I'll guarantee you'll never find out! The best thing to do is to prepare yourself for leaving,i.e. work on issues that may be viewed as negative and garnera "willing to rehire" statement or document form your current dept. That usually looks good...I hope I'm on line with what you asked.....
