Just a quick question. I may be getting an administrative discharge from the military for a weight control problem. I really am striving to be a police officer in about a years time. I am wondering if I would have a problem with the hiring process if my discharge wasnt technically an "honorable discharge". Any one have an idea? Thanks.

Wolf 13--If you are getting "an administrative discharge" for a weight control problem, you should hopefully get an "honorable discharge" or, a discharge "under honorable conditions" assuming there isn't some sort or regs or other issues not being factored in here that have a bearing on your pending status. I am not completey hip to all military procedures, regs or anything BUT, I can say with reasonable confidence MOST LE agencies require the "honorable discharge" OR, "under honorable conditions" discharge. Sounds like your discharge is going to me something falling under a medical-related discharge perhaps under honorable conditions depending upon how the military deals with these situations. Again, i am no expert when it comes to how the military handles these situations. My point is simply: Keep in mind that most departments require the honorable discharge status (Or, "under honorable conditions"). if your discharge is likely destined to be something else and you really have serious plans of getting into the LE profession, I'd find out what I can about your pending status BEFORE getting out. AND, if there is a potential problem, I would find out what I can to do something about it while you apparently have time. ;D Hope that helps. Charlie
