I am getting ready to join the Air Force to be an SP (cop) and plan to take multiple collage courses while I'm in. Although one of my friends just got back from army basic, (he was going to be a MP) but they said he couldn't do that, because he had smoked marjauina, and by his own admittance it was recent.
My question is that, I tried it a few times about 2 1/2 years ago, (I can only think of maybe 6 times) will that hurt my chances of being an SP?
Any advice is welcome. Thanks a lot.

Hello, My husband is an AF recruiter. Technically, the marijuana shouldn't be a problem. Much like a municipal LE job, they are more concerned with hard drug usage. The recruiter will ask you if you had engaged in any prior illegal drug use and that is as far as they will question you on the drug use matter. The AF does not polygraph, they basically rely on self-dislosure. You would be amazed at what some of the applicants will self disclose and consequently DQ themselves. You have nothing to worry about, just stay clean from here on out because they will do a drug screen on you, and also because it is the smart and logical thing to do.

I just talked with my husband and he was curious about your friend's DQ as an MP. My husband's suspicion was that the Army just needed a warm body so they told your friend what he wanted to hear concerning job availability when he singed up. He said that as far as he knows, the Army doesn't need MP's at this time, but when I told him that by your friend's own admittance, his marijuana use was recent; my husband said that that could be the reason. If your friend was questioned again at basic concerning drug use, which I have never heard of in the AF, He must have self disclosed about the marijuana use. Anyway, you wont have anything to worry about, just stay clean and keep out of trouble from here on out and you'll be fine. Lisa
