If you have completed the background ( polygraph, interview, etc) as well as the physical and MMPI/Psych eval interview, then you will receive an orientation interview after being contacted that you are scheduled for an academy date. you've waited this long, and the wait can be from 9 months to a yr and 1/2 max. so be patient. the Fact that you already know that your back ground investigation is completed, should be a hint, unless there is something else going on. you'll get either a call or mail that you are to report to 150 N. Los Angeles street ( Police Admin. Building). I suggest that you call once in a while to see where you stand, but don't make a nuisance of yourself. Also ask to schedule a ride along in a division (now called "area community station " ), as you SHOULD REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO. LAPD's morale and work environment isn't quite the"best" right now. I made contact with a cop2be here on this site and kept in contact with her as she went from process to academy to patrol ( S/E Div.) The horror stories, abuse, and poor work environment is taking its toll on what was once a strong, committed, loyal team of officers. That same officer now has job offers from Buena Park ,CA PD and from the Orange Co. and L.A. Co. Sheriffs Depts. Bottom line, be committed-this isn't a "I'll just try it for now" job.you are 1/3 of the way there , so good luck and congrats on your current efforts.Did I also mention be "patient"?

Sir112-- Congrats on your progress thus far with the LAPD. To echo a little bit of concern as mentioned by Cpl. Mike, i hope you know what you're getting yourself into. Don't get me wrong, the LAPD has always been a front runner and progressive LE agency. They have, without a doubt, a lot of committed professional officers BUT, as Cpl. Mike pointed out, these are uncertain times for the LAPD (as well as many other LE agencies across this country) and morale has reportedly been a lot higher in previous years as opposed to how it is now. If I were in your shoes, unless you've done so already, I would try and find out all I could about the LAPD and what you're going to be up against. Have you checked out their web site to "educate" yourself about the department and the expectations of personnel coming on board? www.lapdonline.org/index.htmI also believe they have an email where you can send emails to a recruiter or something like that. I'd be willing to bet you can get some of your questions answered through this feature on the web site. Nevertheless, no matter what you decide, good luck! I have heard consistently that LA is a tough town to be a cop in this day and age. I hope you are ready for the committment they ask of people coming on board as well as any other unexpected challenges as well. Best of luck to you and your success. Charlie

All right, so what, the LAPD has a bit "different" working environment now - low morale, low output. It can only get better! The pendulum is constantly swinging... It all happened before - in the 40s/50s and 70s/80s. What better time to join the one of the best law enforcement organizations in the world than now? You can live the work/life that so many aspire to but only a few have the guts/intelligence/integrity to perform. All jobs have some political/procedural sh*t to deal with. LAPD is on the edge and so it is going through many changes, be a leader, join LAPD and help make LA the best most desirable city in the world. Diversity is strength.
Sir112, you should not have to wait very long to join an LAPD academy class. Thanks for your commitment to join LE. You are only "going to be up against" yourself!

Sorry Sir112 if I've given you any dated info, but keep us all posted on your "journey". All I and Charlie are suggesting is ,Please don't be naive about whats going on with the agency (LAPD).What other mike doesn't understand mention is that NO OTHER AGENCY in So.Calif (except the unarmed peace officers of L.A. Park Rangers Dept) makes you sign a condition 5 yr contract, and the "outside" area and suburban agencies are better to work for. What is important is that you get prepared and don't buy into the hype of L.A. being a "ghetto gunslinger",get in the academy, pay attn. to your D.I..,P.I.s tactics instructors and squad advisors(you'll learn what they do , and how they can affect your future).Stay fair and even minded, and you'll have a good career(work hard and in 3-5 yrs you can be a P-3 or Detective,5+yrs and Sgt)/congrats and keep up the good work. P.S. why contact other LAPD hopefuls; in a few months you'll have sooo many new LAPD friends /co workers, you'll swear the make up the whole city population ;D
