Hi there,
just a question in regards to the RCMP RPAT scoring method. i'm waiting for my results, but just wanted some clarification. i think the exam is out of 124. you then get a mark out of 5.0. is there some method of calculation that they use? would 4.0/5.0 be roughly 80%? thanks for the replies.

The RPAT comprises 114 multiple choice questions. There are several versions of the RPAT. Because of this, a common scale was required. The RCMP has to make identical conclusions regardless of the RPAT version. A scale similar to a university grade point average was used. The RCMP chose to use 5.0 as the highest. A passing mark for the RPAT is 3.20. To get a rough estimate of your percentage, divide your result by 5.0. So a passing mark of 3.20 translates to 64%. Just curious, when did you write the RPAT? I wrote in early December and received my results exactly 4 weeks later. I've heard recently of people still waiting after writing 3 months prior. I scored a 4.29 (86%) so now I have to wait for the next stage...the PARE.

Hi guys, I am due to write the RPAT on Mar. 2nd I heard that the cut off mark is somewhere around 4/5, did any of you hear that? I applied in October but only received my test date yesterday! It's a long process . . . .but hopefully it will be worthwhile! Ace13

FYI, the cutoff for the RPAT varies by province. It depends on the number of people going to Depot that year, and the number of spots your province is given. For example, last year in Sk. the cutoff was 3.71.

Does anybody know how recruitment is looking for this year (for their specific province)? At the HQ here, I've heard that they are sending one person to depot between now and April and it doesn't look good for after April as well! Has recruitment slowed down for other provinces also? Ace13

There are no more troops going in between now and April. After that there are 10 troops scheduled between April and October. The numbers are low right now. I believe 450 (approx.) cadets this fiscal year, however there is indication that those numbers are going to increase. Hope that helps.

what province are you talking about when you refer to HQ? as well, does anyone know the situation here in BC? what stages are people in in the RCMP process. i wrote the RPAT last week, and the waiting process has begun i guess.

By HQ - I mean Headquarters. I am in the province of Newfoundland. I know alot of people here that are at the background stage and have been there for a long long time. One guy (white non-minority) that I know has been waiting now for over a year since he passed the interview. Thank Mark for your info. I have heard as well that things should pick up with regard to recruitment, but I've heard the other end of the spectrum as well. I guess it's only a wait and see process. I am just at the very beginning, going to write the rpat on Mar. 2nd. I guess it's the same across the country with recruitment.

Mark, just wondering how reliable your info is as to the number of cadets scheduled and the fact that number is going to increase? Like everybody else, this waiting with no reliable information (just rumours) forthcoming is a killer. From the sounds of it, the RCMP has the slowest process of any Canadian LE agency. Thanks a lot.

My information is pretty reliable. In fact I understand that five more troops have been added for a total of 15 troops between April and October. Good Luck!

Hey again, I just heard some bad news from RCMP. One of my friends found out that recruiting here in NF, have decided to drop a bunch of people from the PIRL because they are not sending many people to depot. Apparently, they are expecting recruiting not to pick up so they have decided not to carry as many people to that list. My friend had passed everything (started the process in August 2000) and scored really well but now he has been dropped and has to start all over again. So I would recommend that anyone further ahead in the process, contact your recruiters and find out if it is the same scenario in your area. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
