why be a cop?

To all the l.e.o. want to be's, I pose this simple question.
    Why do you want to be a cop?

my decision to pursue a career in le was based on the fact that i wanted a career in which i could make a difference.  a career that mattered if i went to work or not.  sure there are alot of careers that make a difference, and that are much safer, but as a cop all of those careers are wrapped up into one job.

another reason is that i enjoy being out on the streets and not strapped to a desk.  in what ever town i am lucky enough to be hired by, i want to give to those people what i had growing up.  the feeling of being safe at night, being able to go outside and not fear being robbed, shot at, or picked up by a sicko.  

i am not looking to change the world, but if i can make my little corner of it a better place, then all of the nights, weekends and hollidays will be worth it.  i know it sounds like a pretty generic answer, but it is the honest truth .
