I have been working in the manufacturing environment for the past 13 years. This year they have decided to close the plant so I will be looking for a new job. I have always had an interest in law enforcement and I see this as an opportunity to explore it as a career. I have some friends that are officers at different departments and they enjoy it very much. I have taken the P.O.S.T. entrance exam and am waiting for my results to see how well I did.
This last Friday I was invited by the lieutenant of the local police department to come and visit the station and receive additional information on the selection process. The visit went very well and the lieutenant was very helpful.
As I have learned about different departments in my area I have been concerned about the vision requirements to becoming a police officer. I have a lazy eye that does not have the ability to focus. I have lived with this for 35 years and never worn glasses. The brain has compensated for the loss of vision in the one eye. On an average basis I can see as good as anyone else. I even obtained a CDL drivers license a few years ago and the vision wasn't a problem with that.
Should I be concerned that I will be disqualified on the vision and give up before I waste too much time and money? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Checxk with the Dept(s) you are applying for, then consult an eye doctor in your area.Although there are ADA(americans with Disabilities Act) issues, most agencies can be strict due to liability issues(poor eye sight can lead to bad shooting issues, traffic collisions, etc).Surprisingly min is 20/100 correctable to 20/30, which is due to generally poor eye sight in the populace. don't be discouraged-do your best.
