Hey guys I just signed up for a ride-a-long with a dept. that I got DQ'ed by about 6 months ago. My question is Does this in any way improve my chances of getting in next time around? The reason I got DQ'ed was beacause I received 2 speeding tickets early last year. Will this show them that I am genuinely interested in this dept. and put this into consideration for hiring me? What would you guys recommend for me to do while I'm with a police officer for his/her 8 hour shift? Will too many questions be extremely annoying? Thanks for the help guys. You've always been a guiding source for me. Except for that guy who keeps telling me about "the lie behind the lie detector" Sorry man I just don't see why go through all the trouble when you can pass just by being truthful....

SANTIAGO--Ride-a-longs can possibly be of some help for you I think. It'll show that you are interested in the department and, I think, it could be something you can attest to whenever you go to the oral board. That is, you could tell them that you've done the ride-a-long and have seen first hand what the officers do out there. Course, I would recommend doing it more than just one time though! ;D
I think it can possibly help you to some degree. How much? How little? I think it depends upon the department.
As for asking questions....sure, ask some questions. How much is too many questions? Don't know. I guess it would depend upon the officer.
There is nothing I can really recommend to you should you do the ride-a-long. Just be sincere, professional and genuine. And remember, it might take a little time to establish a relationship with an officer. You're probably not likely going to jump into a car and *poof* the officer is suddenly your buddy.
Go and have a good time, ask some questions, and enjoy the ride. Let us know how it goes.
