Hello all, I just thought I would give you all a quick update. I went to my interview with the chief of the small agency that I applied to; the interview also included the patrol Sgt. I think it went well, but I was so nervous considering that this was my VERY first LE interview. The funny thing is, I went in there feeling pretty laid back, and the nerves hit when the questions started. ;D It usually takes A LOT to unnerve me, but I guess I was nervous because this is so important to me. I haven't heard back from them as to whether I will continue in their process yet, but I should be hearing something soon. I would have posted about my interview sooner, but I have had an extremely busy week. I had to assist in two days of chemical awareness at the local High school, and I had to take my ALERT test, which is a test required by the state of Maine to prove that you can handle the academy's curriculum; I passed that test. 8) I also just started Kenpo martial arts training, my instructor is a federal police officer, and an excellent instructor. I am learning a lot from him, and I am still pretty sore from last nights lesson. ;D In addition to all of this I also had several family obligations, so I have been a very busy "girl". I hope all is going well for everyone here. Lisa

midcoaster--Sounds like to me things likely went well. Hang in there.....and remember also: It is not unusual for someone to apply to an agency more than once BEFORE someone finally gets themselves hired. So, i you don't make it the first go round, might be worth the effort to try again with the same department unless there is something that would permanently DQ you. But, I suspect that won't be a problem for you. ;D

Lisa, I hope things go well for you. I just started the process in my local area of Utah. I turned in my first application on Monday and I have to go in and take a written test on the 25th of April. I got my scores back on the state POST (police officer selection test) and I got an over all of 90. You need a 70 to pass and most agencies like to see at least an 80. So I feel pretty good about that. Some agencies will accept the POST test for their written but others still do their own.
Good luck to you and keep us posted on how things are going for you. Your friend in law enforcement.

Hello again, Just another quick update, I found out last Friday that I will not be continuing with the hiring process at the small dept. that I had the interview with, I actually had to call them to check my status and was told that if I was going to be called back for another interview, I would have by that time; I guess they expected me to take the hint. Oh, well on to bigger and better things, I received a call from the large Dept. that I passed the written for, less than an hour after I found out about my status with the small Dept., and they want me there on May 1st. for the physical agility test, and if I pass that I will get to go back the next day for the oral board, which will consist of the Deputy Chief, and some other brass and a Civil Service Rep. You can bet that I am preparing for this interview, as I have a feeling that my nervousness was most likely a deciding factor in my not being asked to continue the process at the last agency. Thanks for the reply Charlie; if I don't get hired by the large agency, I may consider reapplying with the small agency, but considering their lack of professionalism, I may have to think about it first. The plus of working with that agency, is that they work closely and provide back up reciprocally with our PD, and I know and get along well with a lot of the guys on our PD. Thanks for the good luck wishes Kory, good luck on that written test tomorrow, and great job on the POST test, if your success on that test is any indication, you should do great on your written test, just go in there and ace it. I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of a career in LE, keep us updated on your progress. Well, I had better get back to the grind, I have a million and one things to do and not nearly enough time to do them in. lol ;D Take care everyone, and I promise I will let you know how the physical agility test and oral board goes without waiting forever to post it. Lisa--My suspicion is that the larger agency may reap better rewards than the smaller department. Smaller agencies can be competitive in different ways too. They perhaps already knew who they wanted to hire to begin with.
Ultimately, it's your decision but I would say the bigger agency might be the way to go.
Hang in there.
