Is there anyone who has already taken the Calgary Police APCAT or Written Communication test? I will hopefully be writing it soon and I was wondering if there were any tricky questions or hints some of you would be able to share. Thanks.

Romano, I have written for Calgary and await my interview. The best advice I can give is, go out and purchase one of those police exam books. I liked Cliffords studing for police exams and the Barrons police exams. Both of these books will help you out. The test is two parts, I am sure that you have looked at their web site to get some insight into what to expect on both parts. The first part is the reconstruction of a babbled situation. Just on the same line as on their web site. The secound part is 120 questions you will need to score a 84 to pass, higher of course is better. Also brush up on your math and vocab. You should be fine if you do some studing. Hope you do well, let us know how you do. They mark the tests right after you complete it, they will tell you your mark before you leave. Good luck
Glenn
Becoming a cop isn't something that happens overnight. It takes a good solid weekend of training to get that badge. Forget about the badge, when do I get the freaking gun? Hey, I told you, you don't get a gun until you tell me your name.

Romano, I am coming off of a six month deferral in July. I had my first interview in Jan2002. I was pretty nervous and probably over prepared, had a brain malfunction on one of the questions. Just drew a big blank. aahhhh but I did learn a lot. Now I am much better prepared and feel confident. I have to phone my recruiter on July14th to arrange the interview, I am hoping it will be soon after the 14th. My pare test is good for 9 months which ends on Aug 4 so I am hoping it will be before that, if not i will just run it again. If that all fails, I am looking at Edmonton if I don't get on with Calgary. These last few months made me think hard, I came up with some excellant experiences that should go well in the interview. Why i didn't think of them before is the $100 question. Most job interviews I had have been, show up with chain saw and lets go to work. This was a lot different, so my nerves where pretty high. But I am looking forward for my second chance. Anyway the hockey game is back on. Go Canucks Go sorry flames..... Glenn

Glenn, from what I hear the CPS interview can be a real bi*ch. I am probably most nervous about the interview than any other step. I only have to get there first. What was the interview like? What kind of things did they ask? I heard there is some sort of special format which you need to answer their questions in, is that true? Anyhow thanks for all the info. Don't worry about the Flames we have all pretty much lost hope for them here...6 years in a row no playoffs

Romano, Hi Romano how ya doing? The best for now is to concentrate on the written tests. The best info about the interview is their web site. You have to answer the questions using the STAR format. Situation, Task, Action, Result. It is the same as the RCMP so look up both web sites. Once you reach that stage your recruiter will tell you how to answer the questions. The questions are aslo posted on their web site, and your recruiter will tell help you and point you in the right direction, I have heard people being deferred upto two years, so my six months isn't that bad. The waiting until July is driving me nuts. I had some good feed back from the recruiter, actually the interview was pretty good. It was me being a little too nervous and maybe a little over prepared with information. ...brain overload..lol.. oh well what do you do. Try Try and Try again. Anyways, just take it one step at a time, next thing you know you will be there. Good luck. Glenn 8) Remeber, becoming a cop isn't something that happens overnight........

Glenn, thanks again for all the info. I am also coming off a 6 month defferral, but in May. I applied back in Dec 01 but I had a "3 years clear" issue from 2 1/2 years ago that set me back. So in a week or so I will call my file manager and have her re-activate my file, from there I will see when the next testing sessions will be. Hopefully soon!

I have written the Regina Police test and bought the books to study. Do you think the Norman Hall book and Barron are the same books to study? Any insight as to what Edmontons testing is like and/or recruitment process? I have written for Calgary and await my interview. Romano,
You are talking and asking questions of Glenn like you have never been through the CPS process. I thought you went right threw everything including the last stage poly? What gives?
