I ran my pare test today for the Calgary police. I passed with a time of 3:43 but I really underestimated this test. I had seen it a couple of times before and thought that it looked pretty easy. Well I can tell you that its not that easy and if you are not prepared you might be in trouble. So if you are like I was, take it from me prepare yourself because it is definitely not as easy as it looks.

HI Romano,
Hey that still a good time. I did the pare for Calgary with a time of 3.27. I have seen a lot of people fail it. Some from being out of shape and not prepared. Others that were in shape but tried setting a record only to fail. I can hardly wait for my interview. In the meantime I have applied at Edmonton Police. I can do the physical at the end of June. Working out at the gym pretty hard. Check out there web site. The last time I did chin ups was in high school...ok it has been that long...years. Dont want to do the math..LOL. Anyhow I have to work on chin ups and dips. I feel confident about everything else. So if I feel good I will do the physical in June, otherwise the next one will be at the end of Aug. I will let you know when my interview is with Calgary. Maybe I will give you a call when I am in town. Chat next time, Glenn
Remeber, becoming a cop isn't something that happens overnight. It takes a good solid weekend of training to get that badge.....LOL

Romano,
How much preparing did you do? Weekly, let's say? I just want to get an idea, before I run the PARE and while I still have time left to prepare!
Thanks Ace13

Glenn, 3:27 is a really good time, especially because it is valid for CPS for nine months instead of six. I am going to be writing my tests for CPS on July 13. How long after your testing was your interview?
Ace 13 I try to run 5km about 3 or 4 times per week and I lift weights about 4 times a week. Its hard with work and everything else to find time but I try! Anyhow I would recommend trying to get a practice run through the Pare before you actually have to do it. The running involved was not the hard part it was justthe combination of jumping and stairs and having to fall and get back up again that really gets your heart going. Oh and definitely bring a halls or lozenge of some sort, your throat gets really raw after the test. When are you going to be doing your pare?

I am scheduled to run the PARE (for RCMP) on June 3rd. I am trying to fit time into working out with weights and running, along with my work . . .it's often a struggle! But I'm doing ok, I work out about 3 times per week and I am running about 3 times per week. I was wondering if anyone ever heard of practice runs of the PARE during Police Week (May 12-18)? That would awesome if there were held! At least then I would get to see what it's all about. If I can't practice the official pare, I am going to simulate on in the gym at the YMCA. Except I won't have the full set of steps, I'll just have to step up and down from one a few times, and I don't have the wall to jump over. Thanks for the info.
I'll keep ya posted. Ace13:)

Ace, How you are Ace? Good I hope. Anyway, I wasn't able to pratice run the pare, but they set up the course at the YMCA. For the stairs, get this, I ran out the door and down a flight of 8 stairs and back up againg to the gym. It worked. To train, I did the weights and stuff at the gym. But I like hiking and mountain climbing. One thing you should do is to run up and down stairs. Say in a building. That builds your legs and your cardio. The women I have run across while doing this usually have trouble at the push and pull station. If you are in shape you can do the run. But may have trouble at the push pull. You stated you are 5ft 2. That is where you will have to work on. Have someone, say a strong guy hold a hockey stick in front of themselves. Lean into him while grabbing the stick and sort of push it as hard as you can while he pushes back, and do the 180 degree arch. Then do the four falls and then back to the hockey stick test and simulate the pull. This will give you an idea of the push and pull test. When you do the pare they will walk you through it. They will let you play around a bit. So go over to the push pull and test it. It will be the push part that you will have to work on. So keep at the gym with the weights and running. Do run up and down stairs. Hope you make it, and let us know how you do. I probably will rewrite the rpat for the rcmp next month. Can't believe it has been a year. Hope to get higher than my score of 3.5 this time. But I hope that I will make it on with Calgary. Take care Ace, good luck. Glenn
