This is to all the potential Calgary police applicants out there. I recently heard from a very reliable source that they will be putting 3 classes through this fall after the G8 conference. I volunteer at a Calgary Police office and one of the constables told me that they will be doing this because a lot of "older" cops are waiting until after G8 to put in for retirement. That means more room for you and me! Just thought some of you would want to know this. Good luck.

Go for it, young man! and good luck- I've monitored the Canadian police Depts( via calls to friends, internet connections, emails ) and it is not easy to get on up there!(perfect example is some of the hopefuls/candidates on this site trying for RCMP ).I think you know what you need to do, so DO YOUR BEST! Keep this board updated.....

Thanks cpl_mike, it is pretty hard to get on with a PD up here. In my city Calgary there is something like 500-900 applicants per position.(At least that's what I have heard) The only way to stay competitive is to have volunteer experience and a post-secondary education. I will be re-applying to Calgary in May so wich me luck!

Hey Ramano, Did you get any idea on the number size of the classes? The average for the rcmp right now is 30 cadets per class. G

Glenn, I am not positive but I have heard more than once that CPS classes have 24 recruits. Have you found out when you will be doing your interview?

Romano, No not yet, I have to wait until July 14th to contact my recruiter. That is the day my six month deferral ends. I feel much more confident this time around. I can hardly wait. I hope that it will be the following week or by the end of July. My pare expires on Aug 4th. I have been working out at the gym three times a week and doing some mountain climbing to stay in shape. If I have to do the pare again I want to try and beat my time of 3.27. As well as to do the Edmonton Police physical at the end of Aug. I sure hope to get on with Calgary Police, if not, I have applied at Edmonton and will rewrite the rcmp rpat this June. I will let you know my interview date with Calgary as soon as I hear from them. So how are you doing? Have you written the tests for Calgary yet? Chat later, Glenn

Glenn, well I have not written the tests for CPS yet. My testing date is July13. I am doing my CPR and first aid course at the end of June because you now need to have both your PARE and the CPR stuff done before you can write your tests. Anyhow good luck with all your applications.

There are 24 recruits per class in the CPS training. It is a great organization and I would wholeheartedlty recommend it to anyone! I get my badge in 3 days!!!

Cst. Glenn S, congrats on completing training. It must be a great feeling to be done and ready to go out on the street. What is training like in Calgary? What kind of requirements do you have to meet while in training to graduate?

You have to meet certain Physical (Above and Beyond the PARE) requirements, as well as acedemic, shooting , driving, drill, Subject Control, Officer safety, and on and on...
It is very taxing, but well worth it! I woudl recommend CPS to anyone!

Glenn S thanks for all the info it has been helpful. I have one more question, I heard that one of the physical standards is a 5km run in 24 min is this true? I only ask because I have been trying to get my time down to 24 but I am still hovering around like 26 min. Thanks again.

Howdy Everyone
I've been off the site for a few months, but am getting antsy to re-apply to calgary: application going in again in a week and a half. Congrats Cst GlennS - was there a Kelly O on your course? He's a buddy of mine, former mil police and he started his course mid-jan, but I've lost touch with him since he left winnipeg. If you know/see him, tell him congrats for me - he'll know who it is. Does anyone know when there will be interviews/polys/psychs over the summer after G-8? ???Here's a weird question - don't know if anyone can answer: If "someone" successfully completes the interview, then withdraws prior to polygraph, how long is the interview good for? If "someone" reapplies within a year of the interview, is it still good (ie the wct, apcat are good for 3 years, pare for 6 months etc), or would"someone" have to re-do it? I forgot to ask when I withdrew in August 2 weeks prior to the poly. Any help appreciated. Good luck to everyone out there.
Dave

daveben, I am not sure about whether or not they will make you re-do the interview but you should call and ask your file manager to be sure. I take it that you have passed the interview then, what were some of the questions that they asked you? Thanks.
