I have drank and drove in the past but NEVER RECIEVED A CONVICTION OR EVEN PULLED OVER. When I take the polygraph test will it affect me. I plan on admitting to it just want to make sure I won't get dropped if I admitt to it.

Ben
The simple answer is DON'T LIE, but you are not under any obligation to volunteer information that was not asked for.
Nuff said.

The simple answer is DON'T LIE, but you are not under any obligation to volunteer information that was not asked for. Nuff said. Actually, polygraph "tests" are based on the assumption that the subject will lie with regard to the "control" questions. (This assumption is hidden from the examinee.) One of the most commonly used "control" questions used in law enforcement pre-employment screening is, "Did you ever drive while under the influence of alcohol?" The polygrapher steers the subject into a denial by implying that the department is very serious about drunk driving, and anyone who had driven while under the influence would be unsuitable for employment. But the polygrapher secretly expects that everyone has done so. He wants the subject to answer this question deceptively so that he can compare responses to it to the subject's responses to relevant questions such as, "Did you ever use an illegal drug?" Oddly, the polygraph process is designed to pass through a person who would drive under the influence and then lie about it. For more on how polygraph "testing" works (it has no grounding in the scientific method), see AntiPolygraph.org's free book, The Lie Behind the Lie Detector:antipolygraph.org/pubs.shtml

This question hasn't come up on any of my polygraphs. I will tell you I was asked have I ever broken any laws in which I was never caught. Most people will think and say no..... but we all know we break the speeding laws every day and thats normally the answer they are looking for.... don't lie but I wouldn't volunteer to paint a bullseye on my chest either....
