I've applied to 4 different agencies. However, only LAPD moved me along. I went to take the polygraph and failed the 1st time. The dept. had me come back for a 2nd poly and I admitted to my one-time use of speed. Obviously I was dropped from the process for dishonesty and use of speed. Will this automatically disqualify me from the other departments?

Hopper--Have you asked the LAPD recruiter about this issue? Or, whether or not it will permanently disqualify you from further future consideration with that department? People make mistakes and I am certain you are not alone in this regard. My thought is, should you apply somewhere else, I would be up front and open about this fact. Most likely, the other agency(s) will possibly contact LAPD (or any other department you've applied with) to determine your application status with their department anyways. AS for whether or not this will automatically disqualify you from other departments-----I don't know. It will depend upon the department. As I have always said before, some departments are "more forgiving" than others. Some are quite inflexible when it comes to their qualifications and standards. I think the only thing you can do is contact a given department's recruiter before plunging into the process again and find out if this issue constitutes automatic disqualification. At least that way you'll know before hand whether it is or not a factor and you can avoid wasting your time if it is an issue. I don't think it'll auto disqualify you but it will likely be an issue. My advice would be to express sincere remorse about this error in judgment on your part. And, simply being honest and upfront. Charlie

Charlie, Thanks for the ray of hope! I will heed your good advice. As a matter-of-fact, yesterday I took the written exam for Covina. This, after being told by a Sgt. in that department that my dilema would not automatically disqualify me. He did mention, like you, that if I made it to the poly, that I should be straight forward. Well, Charlie, thanks for taking the time to reply. - Hopper

finally to find that im not the only one to be dq'd for an honesty issue. i to was also dq'd for an honesty issue with LAPD. civil service came to a conclusion that i would have to come back in december of this year. i guess it was my fault. i forgot to tell my background investigator that i tried marijana only once. and i admitted to it in the poly, but public safety still dq'd me. i dont understand i passed everything then at the end they dq'd me? anyway ill just sit and wait.
