I am worried about the written exam that I am taking next week for a town in CT. I have no idea what to expect or how difficult the exam will be.

lilly--I would suggest that you go to your local book store or library and obtain one of those self-help guides that is published by, for example, "ARCO or Cliff's" or something like that. These guides are titled with something to the effect of "Police Civil Service Exam" or somethng like that. These books typically have sample questions and tests contained within them to help you prepare for the written tests commonly given by LE agencies. BUT, keep in mind, tests can differ from one agency to the next! Nevertheless, these self-help books or guides can be beneficial. See if you can track one down. I'd be willing to bet it should answer a lot of your questions. Charlie

lilly, look for a book entitled "Barons Police Officer Exam". It is great, it covers most types of questions that different agencies might ask you. Plus it has 4 practice exams in it. I definitely recommend it.

I did purchase a study guide. However, it doesn't seem as easy as everyone says it is. The sample exams are tough. Should I just go take the exam see how I do?

;D I 've taken several of these exams. Most are easy enough asking you common knowledge. Questions like how many sides to a stop sign or your on the scene of a mob of teens your partner is making a routine arrest and is searching the subject. One of the teens is running his mouth and using abusive language. What do you do..... Back up you partner is the answer....some of the other answers are stuff like make an arrest of the teen, telling the teen to shout up or your going to arrest him. A couple of exams actually give you a small study guide at the time of the test read over this guide then take the test from memory. The best way to gauge this is if they have giving you a study guide or have just told you to show up with a number 2 pencil. If they told you the latter then it is just a common knowledge test and not to worry. Also they normally give you 30 days if you fail to retake. Hope this helps good luck K.U.P.

Thanks! This helps out a lot. At least now I know what to expect. They told us to just show up and I had no idea how difficult it would be.
