Hey, everyone. Well, it took me a while to tell you what happened because I just had my physical test tonight. It was cancelled on Sunday due to weather conditions.
I failed!
I failed on the second part of the test, no less. The first part was the sit and reach. There was no way to be disqualified in it. Anyway, I got seventeen inches, so I did ok I guess.
Then came the darn pushups. I'd trained all month for this, but it wasn't enough. I got twelve before I broke form and was removed from the test. When I say I broke form, I mean my knees bent and hit the floor.
I have mixed feelings about the test. I know I could have done better with more time. Of course, there is always next time. And, hey, If I'm really dedicated to a career in law enforcement, I'll keep trying! Also, I'm sure the department would rather have a motivated individual. And I can't think of a better sign than being turned down, training my butt off, and coming back for more. I'll shred the standards next time, and be one step closer to the only job I've ever wanted.
Wish me luck, as I wish all of you luck in your efforts. May we all get careers we'll love.

Not to worry it happens to the best of them. Keep your spirits up and work those muscles, you'll get it next time. K.U.P.

That is too bad Lich. One little suggestion. Make that one big suggestion. Have you ever heard of Bill Phillips and his company called Experimental Applied Science? Check into it on the net and read into the porgram he invented called "The Body for Life Challenge". Look at the before and after pictures and testimonials. It requires a life change in exercise and eating habits. I went on it and the transformation was unreal. I lost unwanted fat, gained muscle mass, and my strength went through the roof. My cousins husband went on it before applying to a police service here in Canada and lost 35 pounds and his strength went through the roof too. I highly recommend looking into it. The workouts are actually not that tough. I think it may be just what the doctor ordered.
Good luck and don't stop trying. I am on my fifth application process for a LE carreer and it looks like this one is it. I should be going for training in September/October.

Better luck next time Lich. I'm sorry to hear you didn't pass. One thing though you said you trained for a month? I'm guessing that you trained even harder as the time got closer? You might consider taking 2-3 days off from training before you retry the test. Lots of people make the mistake of not taking the time off to recover from their training, then they go and are still burned out since their bodies never had time to recover. If you take 2-3 days off, before the test you'll be a lot stronger come test day. Just an idea. Don't know if it applies inyour case or not.

Sorry to hear that Lich. One suggestion I would make, check out your local fitness facilities and see if they have any trainers who are farmiliar with police fitness testing. I am a strength/fitness instrustor with the YM-YWCA. I have assisted people in the past because I have run the different tests. A good trainer can get you on the right track and help you succeed. They can design a program to target the areas you may need more help in than others. The real important piece of advice is DON"T QUIT! Failure is never an option, just keep going. I read one other guy in this post say he is on his 4th or 5th LE applicant process? I can relate I am on my fourth as well. Lich, never quit, keep going back again and again.
Good Luck Storm

Hey Lich, how are the pushups going? I noted it's been almost a month since your post about the test so I presume you must have improved quite a bit by now.
When I started to apply for the RCMP I would get winded running out of my cul-de-sac. After almost 2 years in the process I can do a 10k run in under an hour. I droppped 30 lbs. I went from a couch potato to running 5 times a week; it's been great to feel in shape! Just a matter of training hard as you pursue your goal.
