Here is my dilemma. After dong my time as a Military Police Officer I decided I would love to do the same work in the civilian world. So I went out and applied for a local dept. At the time the Dept. did not have a polygraph so I choose not to disclose the fact that I had smoked MJ three x in High School. Well after my background was finally complete I decided to go back to college and finish my degree. But after three semesters I decided I wanted to get back into the PD game. So now I’m faced with applying for depts in my area and all have the poly. If I disclose my MJ use with another dept will they disqualify me for not disclosing with the first PD I applied for? Or should I keep my answers consistent by denying any drug use and take my chances with the polygraph? I would appreciate to hear everyone’s thoughts on how they would handle my dilemma.
Thanks. MP

MP; If you were not asked on a poly about MJ, then you were not asked, and there is no foul. If you were asked on an application or oral interview and denied it, then there could be a problem.
Your best bet is to be honest, if you lie and are found out, you could lose the job. I think it is better not to get the job than to lose it 2 years down the road, that will follow you.
If high school was the last time you used MJ, you should not have a problem now, of course I can't guarantee that, it is up to the department.
Good luck. JimCMR

Disclose the answer if they ask at a new PD. You will not be lying because you were not asked. If they ask you anything about it, i.e. why you did not say anything at the 1st PD tell them that you were not asked. ^ the advice already given is the best!

Unless someone who actually witnessed you smoking dope tells them that they saw you.....there is NO way they can find out. Polygraph is boloney.......Stick to your guns....no department wants a dope smoker. Don't create an issue where there is none. The "truthful honest" replies are not correct. I know and you know you don't have some weird drug problem. There is no need for you to blab that you "tried it" to a potential PD department when it could in fact, disqualify you. Why shoot yourself in the foot?

Its on your mind. Be honest, thats what the job is all about.
One day it will come up... Take now for example.. Im sure you thought that you were fine the last time that you didnt disclose it.. Play your cards fairly or you will live to regret it a second time and it may be even more detrimental the next time!
GOOD LUCK!
