Hey, I just needed to know the best way to get through a psych test? I'm in the Miami area and I heard it's like two thousand true and false questions followed by an interview with a psychologist. I know a buddy who has failed two years in a row, which makes me nervous. I'm wondering what is the psychologist looking for when he/she interviews you and if the key is to be consistent throughout all the questions. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just answer the questions honestly. Here, I know that you do the exam and are only interviewed if there is cause for concern. Like you scored higher than you were supposed to on certain parts. For the RCMP, they use the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Index 2. My advice would be to find out what type of test they use. Good luck Ace13

Be serious Idon't know a pyschatist that has ever had a sense of humor. You don't have to agree with everything they ask you. Like " why do you think the parole is a good thing" You may think it's a bad thing so tell them that. Answer honestly from your heart and K.I.S.S.,,,,keep it short and sweet. Good Luck K.U.P.

Try looking at this link. www.psych.ualberta.ca/~chrisw/L12MMPI/It deals with the MMPI test that ACE13 refers to. I am sure it is quite common for most LE agencies across north america. If I remember correctly it is only about 550 true/false questions and should take you about 2 hours tops. Sporto

I have done the MMPI2 and will be writing it again next week. BE HONEST! It is the one thing that is so very important on the MMPI2. There are questions in the test that are set up to see if you are lying. I consulted a friend of mine with a degree in psych, he explained it to me that there certain questions everybody answers as yes, there are certain questions that are designed to show certain patterns everyone has. They use these questions to see if you are lying or trying to pattern your answers. So stay honest with the answers. The other thing is that it is scored like a bell curve, something like 5% of the population fits into either end, everyone else fits in the middle. It is those 5% on either end that are the ones to be concerned with, the rest in the middle are more or less normal. Like Ace13 said, find out what test they use and do a little research, from what I know most LE agencies use MMPI2 with their own sclaes and sub-scales.

When I wrote the MMPI2 for the RCMP the psychologist who administered the test said that 99% of the time he just ships the test off and never hears another thing. The other 1% they call back and get him to do an interview. He told me it only screens out the major whackos (not a direct quote).
So no need to sweat on this one.
