Hello to All,
I think this message board is a great thing. I have learned a great amount of info from you all. Here is my question. I have always wanted to become a police officer. After graduating from high school I attended college receiving my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Like most of you I applied to many PD's with no luck. I had one incident in college that put a black mark on my record. Nothing serious but when I was compared with other canadiates I was denied. I then went to work in the corrections field but I decided it was not the same. I am currently a MASTER- AT-ARMS (US NAVY POLICE) with four years left to go on my tour. I plan to go back to school before my enlistment is up to get my master's degree in CJ. My question is with my educational background and Military Law Enforcement experience will I have better chance of obtaining my ultimate goal and becoming a Police Officer and if I keep my record spotless while in the military will the black mark from college affect me at all. The Black mark being while in my freshmen year of college I received a misdemenor for Theft of Cable Services. My roomate and I illegaly spliced into our doorm neighbor's cable line. The Campus police gave us the minimum which was a $170.00 fine.

Sounds like you have a while to deal with it but you will probably have to get that misdemeanor pardoned. Most (all?) law enforcement agencies list as prerequisits that you have NO criminal record when you sign up.
