Hi, I'm new to the board although I've been reading it throughout my application process, I've recently been accepted to the acadamy and will start in early december. I was just wondering if I could get some tips from some of the people that have already been to one.

Auscop--That's a broad question!.....It also largely depends upon WHO's academy are you attending as some academies are very regimented and strict! In general, you can expect the academy to be: * Paramilitary in organization. * You may endure a variety of inspections concerning your uniform or barracks bunk or something like that. * Academically demanding. * Physically demanding. * Mentally/Psychologically demanding. * Some academies may require to live at their facility for extended periods of time with only periodic contact with family members. * An overall lack of privacy. You'll also build a bond with other members of your academy class that typically lasts a lifetime! I would also highly recommend that you walk a fine line and keep your butt out of trouble while you are in there. Some guys/gals do some stupid things and get themselves booted out. Make sure you study and keep up with the class. Avoid going out and partying too much, eliminate it or minimize it! There are no other "secrets" that I can think of but hope this gives you some ideas. Charlie

Auscop, Charlie has given some good tips here. I would just add somethings that you will do. These tips were given to me when I asked the same questions.
* you will learn how to salute. * you will learn the importance of "yes sir" and "no sir" * you will learn how to shutup * you will learn how to do as you are told the first time. * you will learn how to keep a clean room, exactly the way they want it.
This was from a guy up here in maine. there were other things he said also but those are the ones I remember the best.
They act paramilitary. They break you down as an individual then build you up. It is a good process. Just like the military breaks you down as a person then builds you up as a unit.
Best of luck in the academy and let me know how it goes.
