I'm just curious.....I recently completed the hiring process for the local Police Dept. in my area...so far I know I have passed every test, interview, etc...the only thing I am waiting for the results on is my Psychological exam. I guess they have to send some of the tests away for evaluation to determine your character type and psychological makeup, etc... My question is what are they trying to determine by all the weird questions, ink blot cards, etc.. during the psychological process? Any input would be great!

Josh/Conan--I assume you both are the same person OR, this is a most unique situation where you both have written the same, identical thing at the same time!!! ;D First and foremost, I am no shrink! ;D BUT, I can tell you that all the wierd questions and tests you experience is to determine/measure your overall mental health and stability. For obvious reasons I think, not everyoneis cut out to be a LEO. And, NOT everyone should be carrying guns or other potentially lethal weapons on or about their person on a regular basis! But that is essentially what the testing helps the shrinks determine about a person. The review the results of all your testing and interview(s) and render a professional opinion to the LE agency about your mental health status. I have always jokingly heard that IF someone completes all the testing and they emerge somewhat confused & dazed,...you likely passed!! ;D That's basically what all this is about! Charlie

Thanks for the reply. I emerged dazed and confused thats for sure. Some of those questions were really weird and I was always wondering what the psychologist thought of the responses I was giving him. I think there was about a thousand questions in all so I was mentally drained after finishing it and did'nt want to even think about taking one more test! I'll keep you updated! Thanks

Try looking at this link. www.psych.ualberta.ca/~chrisw/L12MMPI/It deals with the MMPI test. I am sure it is quite common for most LE agencies across north america. If I remember correctly it is only about 572 true/false questions. Read through the web page and see if any of the questions there were on your test. If you can understand the professors notes you can also extrapolate what the questions are trying to determine from your answers. I think these notes are from a psyc class here at the University of Calgary in Canada. Sporto
