Well, mt PT test was last Saturday. I did my personal best on pushups, 1.5 mile, and 300 sprint.. BUT I failed the test because I was 2 situps short! GRRRR! can you beleive that! I scored high on all the rest! But 2 Situps! I knew it was going to get me The good news: I can retake the test in 2 weeks. Just the situps part so I won't be too tired from everything else. Cheer me on! ;D Oh, and as far as the PT test.. I loved it! It was good to get a sense of the ppl applying for the job and get to know the training staff. Plus I was the only female there and for some reason I got lots of support from everyone. Take care everyone and work hard.... Especially on those Abs. Porl

I clearly haven't watched you do them so I am not sure if this is an issue. Make sure you are not forcing yourself down. Let yourself free fall and then exert your energy on the way up. It was something I used to have a problem with. I since corrected it.
Put it to practice before test day and let me know if it works for you.
Good luck with your efforts.

That's great that you can retest. I'm sure you'll do fine in 2 weeks. Like you said, sometimes you're just so exhausted from the rest of the tests. Good luck

Way to go Porl. I know how fustrating it can be. I just did a physical for a department. Passed all the physical tests. Sit ups, chin ups, reach, dips, bike, strength, etc and third fastest time on the obstacle course. So it was a surprise to have them tell me that I failed. They said I was 0.5% over on the body compisition test. I know that I am well under. I had a test done, and I am 13.1%. At 6ft 2in and 200lbs. Their test said I was 19.5%. I told them that it was wrong, could you please retest me...No. Again I told them that I was well under, and said that I just had one done. Unfortunatley they used the calipers, outdated, and very unrealiable. I even look like 13%. I have been working out at the gym, so I am not a skinny little man. As my doctor said today, I am muscular, and not a small man. I am proud of my height and weight. I can push and pull the weights around on those tests much better than all those skinny little boys....I have a good presence when I enter a room. As my buddys kept saying that I am getting big. The call me big guy. I was told that I am welcome to come back in a few months after I loose some weight. My goal is to get to 10% or less, but still weigh in at 200lbs, I like being big. Just venting a little here.

I knew this guy that was well on his way to being a professional body builder and the Airforce told him he was overweigh. They finally did some sort fo muscle/ fat weigh in a pool of water and found out that he was so under weigh that he need to gain fat mass. Even if you lose the weigh your BMI can still be over 19 percent. So I'm wondering why they even bother to do this any more. If you pass all your other PT requirements then I'd work on this, I'd also apply to some one else that isn't so hypercritical because push come to shove I want a big guy busting down the door and not some paper weigh champion Good Luck....

Drakor, One of the instructors made a comment about they don't really want body builders. He said we move bodies, not weights. I like going to the gym and lifting the weights. I like the results, on the way one looks, the strength, and confidence you gain. I can move bodies a lot easier from lifting weights. I do my cardio as well. I run, hike up in the mountains, and run up stairs. I am not the fastest guy out there. My time in a 1.5 mile run is 12.33. I would like to knock off another minute. I never been a great runner. I hate running, but I do it because I know I have to. I rather do mountain climbing or hiking. But I do run, and can. I am not a steriod freak. Never taken any, or plan too. I do take protein and creatine supplements that you can buy at the gym or health store. I feel great and I sure can knock down a door..at the reserves I love the physical classes, when we get to do take downs. There are only four of us big guys in the class. Its great when you get a smaller guy...LOL Its hard to use all my force, cause I don't want to hurt any of my classmates. So I am looking at another department as well. I have had two body compisition tests done. Both using the lastest technology, for the most accurate. Acually its hard to find a place that uses the calipers anymore. And I am well under the 19%. Anyways, thanks for the reply. Venting

Hmmm kind of an weird way to look at things from that instructor. I'm sure if you meet their hypercritical physical then you'll have no problem finding police work anywhere you want. On the plus size just because your skinny and meet their BMI doesn't however make you the most healthy person...... Something that makes you say hmmmm.....Another note yopu may want to get a second opinion from a Doctor. Then mail in your results....this may however create more problems later....no one know what or why they do what they do but I'll tell you this. I applied to the state police here and I took the written I knew I ace it and when they ran it thru the scan-tron machine I only heard it click once . Do you know the trooper had the nerve of looking me in the eyes and told me I failed. I left in complete disbelief and one month later I received a letter telling me I passed with a score of 98 percent to report for the physical. So I know this stuff happens but you figure they would have a better reason then what they gave you. I wisk you the best. Good luck K.U.P.

Drakor, I talked to the department on the phone about my % test and that I had another test done and it is still is 13%. My doctor tested me on blood presure, heart, etc. The results are text book and better. But it does not matter, they use their personel and test. I am in the best shape of my life, ( mid thrities), never smoked, I don't drink really. I will go 6 to 8 months without any liquor, and then have a glass of wine or a sip of scotch and then go again for 6 months without any. I eat well, hardly ever eat junk food. If I do, I limit it to just the weekend and then through out the week I am on my plan. Not a diet, just eating well and working out. Not all days are good. Today had a good workout, but my running wasn't the best today. Last week running was great, this week aahh. So tomorrow I will go for a hike up the mountain. At least I will be in great form for the rcmp pare test coming up. Chat later Not venting as much...lol
