If anybody is interested I passed another physical agility test on Saturday . If I have one of the top 3 written test scores I should be receiving a call in a week or so to begin my BI but I'm looking for some advice about one part of that. Here is a short, short version of my situation. I am currently working in computer support. I was laid off from my last job due to some downsizing and was unemployed for a fairly long time. While unemployed I decided that becuase I was no longer happy with my career in computers I was going to make a change and go after my dream of becoming a cop. When I found out that the selection process could take 6 months or more I was forced to find another job, also in computer support, to pay the bills. I have now been on this job for 2 months but haven't told them about my new career choice. Should I? They're going to find out eventually any way but I was thinking about waiting until I got to the BI before I said anything. Do you think that it would be possible to request that the department not talk to my current employer? I doubt they will go for that but I thought that I could give it a shot.

Chris, Im not a officer maybe one day all depends but anyway here is some advice, theres no harm in asking the investigators to not speak to your current employer because u dont want to lose your job for any reason(like thinking u dont want to work there). or if maybe the PI will hold it off till your last checkup. If the PI has to , than I would tell your PC job that you applied last year when you were interested and that their doing investigations now at this time. Thats all I would say they really dont need to know anything else, its your life. Also If you really want to become a police officer then I would take that chance, hey what do you got to lose. Its pretty funny I have the identical story, I work with computers in the past 5 years and I got layed off 3 times. As of right now the field is flooded and the salary is low any many companies lose companies and then lay off becasue then they cant afford any employees thats what my situation was, maybe yours is different, Im a network admin, what do u do maybe your field is more open? Also I feel the same way, I do hardware and networking. and u might understand me on this, everytime I started a new company you have to change out video, nic, and modems, which absloultley boring a 8 yr old can do that. The only thing I actually really enjoy is troubleshooting more technical issues becaseu it is rewarding, becaseu if a hard drive died u just swap it-whats so rewarding about that, LOL, it s honeslty not unless the user is jumping happy up and down becasue u ghosted and save her info. So I know where your coming from, I would rather rescue someone's life or prevent an argument or help people. Its would be more of a rewarding/respectfull posiston as an officer. But do what your heart tells you to do and if thats to tell the pc company that u applied a year ago and they are checking now for credentials and my character then so be it, Who knows u might be on this website in 6 months explainig to others well as a police officer I would co so ans so, so I would just let the PI do what they got to do with out saying anything because I was also thinking, mabye a Investigator doing the bckup might say well if cares about his job now then maybe he doesnt want to be a police officer postion bad enought to take the chance. Well hope these ideas help u. take care and Well good luck
