Hey everyone, I finally had my polygraph exam today...I am still feeling stressed out hours after the test. It was definitely the most stressful thing I have had to do. I am really glad it is over and hopefully I survived and I didn't get labelled as a liar even though I told the truth. One thing that is bothering me though is that the polygrapher asked a million times about one question. He was bascially trying to bully me into answering that I had withheld something. I told the truth at all times, but now I am worried that he thought I was lying. Does anyone know if this is just a tactic of the polygrapher or if he would only do something like this if he in fact thought I was lying. The weird thing is he told me afterward that I had been successful in honesty (whatever that means) and then sent me on my way. Oh the stress J and dave did you guys experience similar things when you did your poly's? At least I am done the poly and won't have to worry about that again. Thanks everyone.

Hey, great job in passing your poly, I can't wait until I can say the same. I don't have my poly test until January for SDPD. Even though i'm doing the out of town hiring process in which i'll knock out the written, P.I.Q, Poly and P.A.T test in three days, i'm still pretty nervous about it. The reasons being that even people who are honest wind up failing those things. I mean, i'm for them, yet I'm still nervous on my performance even though I plan on telling the truth, no matter what question is asked. How did you feel? Of course you were nervous, but besided telling the truth did you use any form of tactic to stay calm through the whole process? And out of curiousity what type of questions were asked? Anyway, once again congratulations on passing the poly. So tell me, whats next for you? Cali

Be honest and remain calm. They do use that tactic of asking you over and over the same question. Maybe they saw something in the machine the first time you answered that question and the tester figures they can get you to tell them. There are alot of websites devoted to the polygraph and I recommend that you check out a few. If you go back you'll see that this is a really hot topic and gets alot of people fired up.

Hey Romano,
If you checked the anti poly web page like I suggested you would have seen that "tactic" coming. He had absolutely nothing to go on regarding your chart readings so his tactic was to interogate you regarding...let me guess? Your past drug use! or possibly your past about stealing things. His whole purpose was to interogate you into making even the smallest change in your story. If you stuck to your guns and never admitted to anything else or tried to "clarify" your statement your should do fine. he was waiting for your to admit to drug use, stealing, etc that you did not first admit during your pre poly interview (before he hooked you up). The polygraphers always treat each applicant with the notion they are all guilty of past drug use or have stolen things that they didn't say anything about. The whole premise of the poly is that you will physiologically react greater to the real lies than the little lies they expect you to make based on their belief that everyone has done drugs or stolen things. If you were nervous when answering the question "were you honest in your answer to me regarding your past drug use?" you may have spiked the machine leading him to the post poly interogation line of questions you received. He most likely had nothing to go on other than trying to get you to confess to soemthing he prelabled you as doing in your past. Remember his job is to get confessions, either real or fabricated. That is the only marker in their "profession" (ya right) that they have to base their performance on. As long as you didn't confess anything disqualifying, or change your nswers or try to "clarify" any statement you should be fine. Good luck.
When you did, if you did, confess to anything minor I.E drug experimentation in high school, etc Did he ask you to "help him out" by saying you maybe tried it more than you originally stated so you clear your conscience and don't ruin the poly readings? Another tactic to gain a fabricated admission.

I agree the tester isn't your friend. They are normally the last line before your hired. Stick to you guns no matter what. But it sounds like you passed anyway so good luck to you

Well I did expect that he was going to try to gte more info out of me even though there was nothing more to tell. I didn't admit to anything that wasn't on my disclosure because I had already confessed everything there. I hope that I did pass because it was be awfully disappointing to fail this late in the game. Anyway good luck to all of you and I'll let you know when I foind out anything.

YEAH! I passed my Poly today!! ;D It actually was a Voice Stress. Very interesting. Just one question I thought was extremely odd: Do I have any adversions to the number 13?? And another was if I would fly on a plane on Friday the 13th. (stratching head and wonders, hmm)
